Hey EA guys,
I have played a few small EA games and I really enjoy it. I will be playing my first 3000pts EA tournament in November and I was wondering if people could check and comment on my Imperial Guard army list:-

Company:- 550pts
Super-heavy tanks (3x Stormblades)
Company Upgrades
Flak - Hydra

Company:- 550pts
Super-heavy tanks (2x Baneblades 1x Shadowsword)
Company Upgrades
Flak - Hydra

Company:- 1050pts
Infantry Company
Company Upgrades
Flak - Hydra
Griffon Battery - 3x Griffon Mortars
Fire Support Platoon - Four Fire Support
Support Formations
Artillery Battery - 3x Basilisks
Vulture Squadron - 4x Vultures

Imperial Navy:- 300pts
Two Thunderbolt Fighters
Two Thunderbolt Fighters

Titan Legion Battlegroup:- 250pts
One Warhound Titan

I still have 300pts to spare and wasn't too sure what else to purchase. The main players I will be fighting against are main Space Marines with some Orks and a Tyranids. Thanks :-)

What list? Sorry I am wayyyyy to lazy (read: currently on my 3rd scotch) to deconstruct prices to look up what this is for.

Regardless, I'd take a SC as that reroll is pretty damn important for guard IMO with their lower SR.

just to let you know, you don't attach support formations to a particular company, they're completely their own thing during the game, you may know this alread, but your list is written slightly confusingly... the basilisks and vultures are seperate formations

you're pretty light on activations, I'd get at least two formations of sentinels (really need a scout screen against marines, and they can help you avoid being 'boxed in' against nids) As JimmyZimms says, a supreme commander is incredibly useful and can be a game winner

Other than that, you are horrendously slow, with almost no fast units, your vultures and warhounds will be prime targets as you're going to struggle to nab the blitz or any deep objectives and will struggle to stay in range to protect your own blitz

...aaaand you've got two BTS formations, (the superheavy companies) which is never a great idea.... I'd probably swap the stormblades for a regimental HQ formation with a hydra, then add some ogryns to your superheavies to make them air assault resistant and a very tough BTS

Hope this helps somewhat!

I already know about the support formations. Cheers for that. 8)

I had a feeling a supreme commander will help with the failed initiative test and can now see why it will probably be a game winner. I can probably see why I am slow and a few senti's will probably be a good idea.

Can you explain why having two BTS formations is not a good idea?

Apart from that, thanks for the advice. Very much appreciated :-D

if you have two BTS formations, your opponent gets BTS if they destroy either of them, not both, so they have two targets.....

which list are you using? I've not seen stormblades in either of the steel legion lists

I'd also recommend taking a hydra battery over one of the thunderbolt formations, Tbolts are great, but they can't grab objectives.... and a failed activation at a crucial moment leaves them unable to do anything, hydras can at least move or shoot

Supreme commanders can be essential, remember you can use the re-roll in the rally phase too

also, don't forget your commissars! fearless superheavy tanks are great....

Ah right gotcha on the BTS. I will replace that

I'm using steel legions but I saw the datasheet in the back of the Epic Armageddon book. It should count as a Baneblade so that's my mistake.

I've only been playing EA for about one and a half months so still getting to grips with some of the special features in the game.

No worries. And in friendly play that'd fly no problem. The counts as collectors section of the original rule book really has been superceeded to a large extent by newer list additions that provide uniquely themed and styled play-styles (example: if you like tons of tanks and super heavies the Minervan Tank Legion is your huckleberry). Two fantastic resources to read up on are the NetEA Army List Compendium 2012 and the NetEA Tournament Pack 2012. The latter is great as distilled guide and FAQ to tourny style play and the rules in general. Do check 'em out!

@jimmyzimms, cheers for the info mate. Anything Epic is very much appreciated.

@kyussinchains, I'm British but currently living in Deutschland in Berlin. I used to live in a city called Worcester which isn't too far from Leicester. After Worcester, I lived in London for a few years. I'm making plans on heading back up to Worcester next year. Myself and a few friends have made plans to have an Epic fight (approx 15,000 points). We are pretty much throwing in as many models as we can. I will let you know if you're interested.

Sounds good, there is a really strong epic scene in the UK, lots of well attended tournaments and I believe next year they are planning some campaign weekends and team events and such too..... We had an awesome game last xmas, 18k of nids attacking 14k of steel legion..... :)

Very nice. I brought the Epic Armageddon book and since then I have been hooked. I've purchased quite a few stuff on ebay but also a few bits from Games Workshop. I enjoy large scale fighting and that is what you can do with Epic in a shortage amount of time. Will Games Workshop release new Epic models in the future?

GW would not do this. You see it, when you look to chaos section on GWs HP.

If you have your stuff in Berlin, there is also a load of Epic-Players. Visit: http://www.epic-battles.de/index.php?name=Forums

looking good, although you can't have two sets of ogryns in a company, each upgrade is once per company

I still think you're looking a tad slow, but not as bad as before, I'd also suggest swapping the baneblades for shadowswords, a single baneblade isn't very good to be honest, even with the NetEA/EUK upgunned stats.... a shadowsword on the other hand always gets a lot of respect and has a more streamlined function, it also synergises well with the vultures (use hellstrike missiles to strip shields, then the shadowsword to deliver the killer blow) plus there is a certain satisfaction from frying a single stand of terminators or wraithguard, both of which can be table-punchingly frustrating to kill....

I would offer the suggestion of swapping one of your footslogging companies for a mechanised infantry company with hydra, MUCH faster, troops can hug vehicles for cover, and the chimeras put out 14 shots to the fire support platoon's 8.... they also work very well with warhounds triggering assaults with them in support (try it, march the mech infantry so the majority are within 15cm of an enemy unit, shoot, laying a blast marker or three, then retain, clipping engage said unit and watch as 21 support fire attacks hurt it bad....)

You lunatic..... but still sounds good.

Thanks for the advice again. I didn't know you can have two of the same upgrades. I will try that tactic. I've just made the changes from infantry to mech infantry and Hydra.
