Figured I'd start a log of my battles - I don't envisage it being that interesting/entertaining to the masses, but would like (for my own benefit mainly) to record my games, lists used, mistakes made, lessons learnt and general progress.

First game to follow shortly....

Played Jon twice this weekend, this game was a 2k game as I wanted to road test the list I'm hoping to take to the 2k tourney in London next month.

(I'm sure Jon will be along at some point to correct the below where bias has clouded memory....)

Cagey opening turn, Jon mainly moving his forces forwards to set up ready for several assaults the following turn, includung marching his Gargant straight into the heart of the board.
I tried to chip away at Jons smaller activations in anticipation of the inevitable assaults in turn 2.

Turn 2

Jon won the initative and it looked like I would lose several detachments as the gargant was placed to offer plenty of supporting fire.  Disaster struck as Jon failed the initative test with his first Kult of speed, and then promptly failed the SC re-roll.  This then allowed me to jump on several of his detachments before they could do me harm, breaking the Gargant in the process.
To rub salt into the wounds, his second KoS also refused to activate and just sat there, before getting macro-shafted by my Supa-stompa.

It's MY hill. One KoS refusing to move, the other refused to move and died, and the Gargant got shot and broke...


I made a mistake by sending my Koptas down his flank but, having misjudged the number of models in one of his KoS, wasn't able to break them (pesky buggy hiding behind a ruin!). The poor Koptas were there jumped on by said KoS and removed from play.


Turn 3

The final turn saw Jon running out of activations and, due to the crucial failed assaults in the 2nd turn, on the back foot.
Credit where it's due though, Jon showed how good a player he is by making each of his activations count and forcing me to work to secure the win.

Jon was still contesting enough of the objects at this point to deny all objectives.  Due to my waste of the Koptas the previous turn, I couldn't send them in to snatch his blitz, so this duty fell to the warband mounted in the landa.

I had wanted to use the unscathed landa mob to (try to) finish off his Gargant for BTS, so this plan had to be abandoned.

As it was I was able to sneak a blitz brigade around and grab one other objective to give me T&H and Blitz for a 2-0 win.

Summary.

2k was great fun and quite quick to play.  The 4x4 board really condensed things and we did find that objective placement was pretty cramped.

Need to be more careful with my Koptas in future, as these potential objective grabbers/game winners don't have the numbers to engage the enemy unsupported.
Also didn't really have anything which could guard my own blitz; may try dropping the small blitz brigade and replacing it with a gunzmob.

Got a 3k game in on Saturday against Jons Iyandan Eldar. I'll post lists up later, but a quick batrep is here...

Turn one

Turn one was never going to be that blood thirsty; with most of Jons force off-table in his 3 Vampire Raiders and the remainder deployed out of sight meant there were no real opportunities.

His tanks crept forwards and started picking away at my forces, while I attempted to move forwards whilst keeping everything together to deter a bold wraith guard strike.

When they did come in they mainly stuck to the edges of my battle line, meaning a signal point of damage was all I was a able to achieve through my flak.

As the turn drew to a close Jon had annihilated one of my Blitz Brigades and was well positioned to initiate a series of supported assaults the following turn.
My Gargant had also started to get potshots taken at it too and was down to only a couple of shields.

I had managed to knock one of his vamp raiders out before it was able to withdraw.


Turn two.

I managed to win the imitative surprisingly and set about trying to avoid some of the pain which was about to come my way.
A KoS engaged and took out some prisms. I retained and then engaged the wraith guard which were placed to engage my forces on my right flank.

This proved to be a bad decision though as they bounced off and the WG got a free consolidate move before they had even activated!

Jon then tore into me and took out several detachments during the turn.

My Gargant engaged the eldar BTS wraith guard and opted to FF so that I could take some of his hits on the remaining shields.
Damage was suffered on both sides, with the MW attacks from the WG proving lethal. Gargant was left on 2DC despite winning the combat.

Turn 3

Final turn started with only about 30 mins before the store closed, so we launched into it.

Avatar popped down in the middle of my forces and promptly started sizing up my Gargant.
It steamed in and did a point of damage that went critical causing a fire but in return was smashed to bits by the gargants mega choppa.

I attempted to snatch the blitz with my Koptas only to have them broken.

Jon grabbed my blitz as time ran out as the bearded lad running the store started getting twitchy about the prospect of missing out on beer and BBQ time in the sun.

I made a last activation double with my final blitz brigade to conga between the two T&H objectives to level the scores at 1-1.

It all came down to the end phase; fire goes out - the Gargant lives and it's a draw. Fire doesn't go out - Jon wins 2-1!

Annnnnnnnd;


BOOOOM!
Gargant blows up. Eldar take BTS. Jon wins 2-1.

Summary


A good fun game with both of us running lists/builds which are new to use.
A number of mistakes made, and towards the end several decisions were not thought through as we rushed to complete the game. In particular Jon assaulting the Gargant was more for a quick decisive outcome one way or the other than tactical benefit.

I shouldn't have assaulted the wraith guard with my KoS in turn two; the formation of falcons, while not so potentially harmful to me, would have been a far easier target and given me a better shot at reducing Jons activation count.

In addition, when my Gargant engaged the BTS wraith guard in a firefight, I should have gone into combat instead. While I would have lost the benefit of my shields it would have denied the WG the use of their MW firefight ability.

Ah well....

Fightas manage to take out a Valkyrie. Nat displayed his ruthless side and left the survivors to rot!

Landa fails to take down any of the artillary, thankfully survives the Intercept run from the TBolts (to the relief of the boyz and Supreme Commander on board!) The Basilisks managed to knock out the Supas shields.

My Blitz brigade advances into the centre of the table and manages to take down the Shadowsword before it has activated. In return it takes a bit of a pasting from a mech co.
Stormtroopers later move up and glare menacingly at them, causing them to break.

Stompa mob moves up and batters the mech co. Afterwards I asked which was his BTS formation and found out I'd shot the wrong Mech Co. D'oh!

Turn ended with most stuff rallying, even the Orks! IG holding both of my T&H strongly and looking awkward to shift.

State of play at the start of turn two

Stormtroopers move up prepping for, and then supporting in, and assault by the SC Mech Co.

Blitz brigade engages Nats basilisks and educates them on the merits of spiky 'deth rollaz' attached to the front of the vehicle!

Rough riders then retaliate and despite doing as much damage as a bunch of morris dancer in a mosh pit, manage to win the combat.

My Supa stompa mob spots the Mech Co and stormtroopers intermingled, moves up and drops a load of BP on them catching both formations, and ready to lend supporting fire to an assault by another formation.

Sadly the shooting was so accurate that the stormtroopers were all but wiped out, which meant that by the time I was ready to engage, the stompas were out of supporting fire range!

Incoming! Landa mob engages, and following some unlucy dice on Nats part (well, guard in CC will do that to you) were left with JUST the fearless SC alive.


By the end of turn 2 we were both running out of activations. Ready to try and grab objectives, we began turn 3.....

Start of turn 3....

Landa comes in, spraying firepower at the rough riders on the blitz. Deth Koptas then engage and frustrate the cavalry by skimming, taking the blitz in the process.
Nat's remaining Mech Co then moves back to break the Koptas and contest the blitz.

While all this was going on, I engaged the SC with the warband and manages to kill him, securing BTS and contesting 1 T&H. After the Mech Co had moved back to their own blitz I was able to double my stompas forward to secure the other T&H - thus doing enough for a 2-0 win.



But...............

Spotting a loan (broken) stormtrooper hiding over near his T&H my gunzmob cheekily doubled out of cover and were able to pop him, therefore securing TSNP.

Game over and the Orks had managed to come out on top in a game of attrition, 3-0. BTS, T&H, TSNP.


Always enjoy my games with Nat, who it must be said had the dice against him during this game. Having advised him to take a SC before the game, he then proceeded to fail every reroll all game!

Managed to get a game in against Nats' IG last night.

First time I'd played in about 4 months, and Nats' first game since BSS so we were both a little rusty.

I've been finding in recent games my usual Orkl list a little static and I struggle to dictate engagements on my terms, so tried something a bit different this time. Opting for some Kults and some Mech Warbands to give me some more flexibility.

The first turn saw both sides trying to target the danger elements of the enemy.

I was able to use my first couple of activations to send in me squadrons of fightas. The first neutralised the basilisks, and the second carried out a cheeky flight pattern to enable them to knock out the Nats only hydra.

Mean while, the first of Nats shadowswords found first gear, dropped the clutch and roared forwards, crested the hill, and without pausing to stop; took aim at my Supa Stompa.
The ensuing shot was staggeringly accurate, knocking down all the shields, doing a point of damage, and blowing the stompas head clean-off in the process. Have that!

Concious the second shadowsword was situated to do the same, the stompa formation bravely surged forward to cower behind a nearby wood...

"Cap this..."
Nats' Tbolts go after my fightas (top), while (bottom) my Blitz Brigade sits in the open having failed to hit the Shadowsword with the Zzapgun. Something that was to become a recurring theme throughout the game....

"Oh. Crap."
Nats' Baneblades trundle forwards before unloading seven shades of sh1t at the blitz brigade. When the dust settled, not many of the vehicles were alive. The remainder never rallied...

"No one will spot us round here hiding by this objec-SPLAT!..."
The final activation of the turn saw the landa mob engage Nats BTS mech co who had strayed away from the rest of the army to grab the T&H objective out on the flank.
When everyone had stopped throwing their toys at each other, only the SC and a single chimera survived, for the loss of a stand of Nobz and 2 Grotz
