hey everyone

having a lazy sunday afternoon and been reading some of the great scenarios Chroma has written

I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on a few different ideas i was thinking about

secondary objectives - slight change to standard tournament objectives. thinking a single objective placed in enemy table half and either 1 or two secondary objectives recorded before deployment but unknown to the enemy player.

sabotage type missions - hold location for x turns and withdraw

Thunderhawk down - (guess what I've been watching) played along length of table, crashed thunderhawk or lander objective with the troops carried by it taking up garrison positions, rescue coloum enters from short edge and must retrieve them. enemy forces on table set up anywhere outside of 30cm of objective reserves enter on random edge as they race in

fighting withdrawl - light vehcles and transport vehicles only, player a deploys 10cm deep on short edge, player b sets up in the next 5cm after player a deployment, player b must break contact by gaining space from pursuers, table can be made rolling for example if using 2'x2' sections they can be removed and added to the opposite side of table. once escaping force reaches the last 2' of table removing any pursuers lagging behind

insurgency style - objectives represent cultist entry points, player a must take control of these positions to shut them down, while active enemy reserves can enter through these. possibly restrict insurgents vehicle access but allow for basic infantry to be reused like the old swarm rule for tyranids in 40k or draw up a list of formations and dice for reinforcements (this is inspired by some of the ambush alley games I have played)

I like it! ^-^ (we need a thumbs up emoticon here btw)

While you're at it might as well add the ubiquitous "Normandy Beach Landing" Invasion and the siege scenarios.

they both sound like they could be fun, ill have to dig out some books later and have a look at the normandy beach idea.

just put together a basic scenario, very simple but should be fun

White Dwarf 144 had a ton of good stuff in an article called Epic Assault! for building generic siege scenarios. Perhaps with a little search-fu someone can find a scan for educational purposes.

edit: why the hell I can remember useless shite like this and not peoples names I will never know... [sigh]

I can tell you the the to hit roll, to wound roll and all the modifiers in 40k but I can't remember my Girlfriends Birthday go figure ;D

just knocked up a scenario from IA8, bit simplified compared to the original but should work for something a little different

Another thought is the classic Rear Guard scenario where a forces retreat is covered by a rear guard unit sacrificing itself to save the larger force. In this version the forces are asymetric, the defender is expendable (or better yet, special Rule: Consecrated to the Emperor :)) and is tring to survive long enough (number of turns) to delay the attacker, and the attacker needs to wipe out the rear guard (Annihilate) ASAP.

We thought of trialing the following rules during our campaign (we haven't made a final decision yet):
Quote:
At the beginning of each game, both players will secretly be given a random Victory Goal from the 5 available (Break Their Spirit, Blitzkrieg, Take and Hold, They Shall Not Pass & Defend the flag). At the end of the 3rd turn, both players will declare their secret Victory Goal. If a player has managed to claim their secret Victory Goal, that goal is worth 2 pts for the outcome of that game (as opposed to the normal 1pt per Victory Goal). If the game goes onto a 4th turn, the selected Victory Goal is still worth double points for that game. This is meant as a way to test possible scenarios to try and add a bit more variety.

We haven't playtested it at all so for now it's just an idea.

ahhhh yes a very good bedtime read that one. another interesting scenario is "Custarius Last Stand". One of my favourites tho (which is also the home rules and how my boys and I play) is where destroyed vehicles stay on the table and we add smoke (cotton wool) which can play real havoc in tight area's and city fights as all the wreckage becomes cover and interferes wit LOS.
