2 TK extra attacks, for what it's worth :)

You're right, it would be a suicide mission, but if you have a couple of termie fms and can summon a bunch of daemons (taking chaos as an eg), then, particularly at a 4000pt level, it may be worth sacrificing one of them to try and take the BTS or take enough DC off that the player doesn't want to risk playing it to it's potential, or breaking it (it doesn't have inspiring don't forget and is only DC6). Even a warband in a Landa has a chance, at only 400pts vs. 750pts.

All I'm saying is that, which ever way that would shake out, a single 100pt fm should easily be able to prevent it..

jeez, I take the time to offer someone advice, based on my own experiences, and end up in some kind of pissing contest. Sign me off from this thread.

For what it's worth, I appreciated your hints, and found the debate fairly interesting.

That said, I think your point about the 100 pt titan-escort is well taken: why not? it's an extra activation, and it ensures that your titan doesn't get taken out by termies with hot dice.

I can see why it might be frustrating to see the argument migrate to whether or not the titan could be taken out by an airborne/teleported deep strike -- no question that's a long shot, but why take the risk when a cheap ranger FM can ensure you don't have to.

I was enjoying the debate too! Didnt see anything in either set of posts that came across as nasty or trying to get one over another!

Its what ive found interesting about this game. People have different ideas as to what work for them and what dont, and its always good to hear different view points!

I have to agree with Rug.

Having used both the Warlock and Phantom extensively I love it when someone's daft enough to try and air assault me.

With the Phantom, I'm likely to Barge into the Thunderhawk/Landa and bring some TK to bear. With the Warlock I'll just dedicate the Lance TK shots and put the fist TK attacks and my 6 "Normal" 3+ attacks into the troops. I have AA to place blast markers and am likely to outnumber any air assault once the assault has been fought, so I'd be expecting a decent +3 to the roll off before taking casualties into account with a Phantom and +4 if using a Warlock (Inspiring).

I'd be confident of wiping out/breaking 2 fms with the added bonus of getting a 25 cm move before I've even activated. The titan make take some damage, (Although not much with the 3+/5+) I'm already 2 activations up.

What I'd be tempted to do with this list, is to, drop the support weapons from the guardians and add some Wave serpents, which leaves you 100 pts and then throw in some more rangers and divide them up so that you've got 5 stands in each ranger fm.

Now here's the real debate: is it better to leave the Eldar titan dangling as a poisoned pill? or is it better to keep a Ranger escort to deter such an attack.

This ends up, I think, being a question of psychology and experience: if your opponent knows what it takes to nuke a Warlock, then best to protect your Warlock, because he probably won't undercommit (or if he does, it's because it's the last 'hail mary' in his game). OTOH if your opponent is inexperienced and likely to make a mistake in attacking the the Titan... then by all means don't interrupt him.

But even then, why not simply let the Ranger escort stray off, so your ambitious opponent thinks you've made a mistake -- i.e. perhaps a conspicuous Ranger escort can provide a tool to determine the time and place of your 'invitation' and your opponent's attack.

This is my list at the moment.

1 unit of rangers will sit back guarding at least 1, maybe both of the Void Spinners. 2nd unit of rangers could potentially sit infront of my power fisted phantom, its something i will try out. Now i am considering dropping 2 stands of rangers in order to fit in a gate.

The Warp Spiders go in the Vampire for a nasty Air Assault, which will operate under the protection of the Nightwings and Falcon/Firestorm Troupes.

The Aspects and Guardians in Wave Serpents will both be used offensively to assault the enemy. Along with the Wind Riders who will hopefully offer supporting fire, with the Vypers in there laying blast markers when setting up the assaults.

The titan.........well he will just be big and nasty and stomp things!
