Battlefield:

4x6

Eldar Titan Clan chose long edge.

Deployment:

Eldar Titan Clan kept the Windriders in the Webway and had no garrisons.

Necrons kept everything in reserve.

Remaining deployment as shown:

Turn 1

Necrons teleport in everything except Monolith Phalanx 1. Only Pylon 2 suffers any ill effects, receiving a single Blast marker.

Image

Strategy Roll: Eldar Titan Clan

Pleased to finally be taking the field, the Eldar Knights sustain fire on Monolith 4, trashing 2 Obelisks and breaking the Necron formation… which doesn’t move!

Revenants 1, bracketed by enemy units hesitates before the Autarch sorts them out and they fire on Monolith 2... taking out 2 Monoliths and also breaking the formation… which *also* doesn’t move!

Seeing things going bad quickly, Phalanx 1 pours out of Monolith 4 and engages the Phantom Titan is desperate alpha strike. The Necrons score an amazing *twelve* hits… all of which are saved, three due to reinforced armour. The Eldar then proceed to put the Necrons “back to sleep” and the Phalanx is eliminated. The Phantom loops around its brethren to a better position.

Image

Phalanx 2 then steps out from Monolith 3 to engage Revenants 1. The Eldar Titans step on the Pariah, but one Titan loses 1DC and the other loses 2DC.

Image

The Eldar flee forward, away from the ancient threat. The Necrons consolidate back into a portal and are gone!

Image

Revenants 2 advance on Monolith 2… and eliminate it!

The Phantom then sustains fire on Monolith 3… and eliminates them as well!

Pylon 2 goes on overwatch.

The Nightwings fly in, take a Blast marker from the Pylons, and removes another Obelisk from Monolith 4.

The Heavy Destroyer formation doubles out of the Tomb Complex hoping to get into the action… eventually…

Pylon 1 then goes on overwatch…

End of Turn

Monolith 4 fades away… and fails to rally off-board.

Everything else rallies.

Turn 2

Monolith 1 arrives with no ill effects… other than the sickening sensation that they’re the only active portals in play…

Image

Strategy Roll: Eldar Titan Clan

Again the Knights go first, doubling forward into the forest on the hill. One of the Fire Gales stubs its toe for 1DC damage… and to add devastating insult to injury is then promptly vapourized by overwatch fire from Pylon 2. The surviving Knights put a Blast marker on Monolith 1.

The Phantom then crests the hill on an advance, taking a Blast marker from Pylon 1 and then proceeds to take out 2 Monoliths from Monolith 1.

Seeing the Eldar have fallen into their cunning trap, the Heavy Destroyers double forward and do 2DC damage to the Phantom Titan.

Phalanx 3 then appears from the Portal on Monolith 1 and engages the Phantom with the support of the Heavy Destroyers…

Image

Which is badly needed as the Warriors do no damage, but the Destroyers inflict 2DC damage before resolution wipes out the Phalanx… *sigh*

Image

The Windriders then jet out of the Wraithgate to engage the Heavy Destroyers, also proving the Eldar commander to be a high level douchebag as a single Jetbike is placed in support range of both Pylons.

Image

The Eldar lose two Bikes as the Necrons are obliterated by the Phantom’s support fire… and both Pylons take a Blast marker because of this.

Image

Phalanx 2 advances out of the Tomb Complex to secure it against the Eldar tide.

Revenants 1 advance and fire on Pylon 1, breaking it.

Revenants 2 do the same to Pylon 2.

Free of threat, the Nightwings dive down to hit Monolith 1… but the remaining Monolith survives…

End of Turn

Monolith 1 fades away… and *does* rally off board… Monolith 4 does not.

Everything else rallies.

Turn 3

Monolith 1 reappears by the unguarded Eldar Blitz, hoping no one will notice it…

Image

Strategy Roll: NECRONS!!! Which pass to Eldar Titan Clan. (I could’ve *really* used that Turn 1…)

The Phantom doubles down the road to secure Necron Objective 2 and fires on the distant Phalanx 2… eliminating 1 Warrior.

Phalanx 2 them marshals… moving in to the Tomb Complex and popping out of Monolith 1 to take the Eldar Blitz! WOOOT! They remove all Blast markers and restore a Warrior unit.

Revenants 2 double back to deal with this treachery, but score no hits, placing a single Blast marker.

Again the Eldar have fallen for the cunning-as-a-weasel-who-is-the-dean-of-cunning-studies-at-cunning-univesrity plan of the Necrons as the single unit of Monolith 1 engages Revenants 2 with the support of Phalanx 2.

Image

The Necrons do 1DC damage… suffer no loses… and *WIN*, sending the Eldar Titans packing… looks like things are looking up for the Boys in Silver!

Image

The Knights fail to sustain fire, but just plink away at Pylon 2, breaking it again.

The Windriders march to secure Eldar Objective 1 and the Tomb Complex.

Revenants 1 advance to fire on Pylon 1… and something important cracks and EXPLODES taking out one of the Revenants in the process!!! (Both my opponent and I agreed that the Holofield save wouldn’t be allowed here and just the “armour save” was rolled, and failed, in the explosion… thoughts?)

Image

The Nightwings reappear to hit Pylon 2… to no effect…

End of Turn

All Eldar rally.

No Necrons rally.

Score:

Eldar Titan Clan 3 (Blitz, BTS, T-n-H) vs Necrons 1 (Blitz) – Moderate Eldar Titan Clan Victory!

I certainly think by logic, something as untargeted as a giant blast would be unaffected by the fact the Revenant looks like a disco ball that was hit with a hammer when it moves... however, the rules do state "This save may always be taken", and so it would appear they would, RAW.

I guess one could abstract as the holofield representing the fact that the titan wasn't actually there - it was nearby but out of the blast radius. Would still be a bit cheesy and I wouldn't play it that way. However, what about barrages that target a different fm but the template clips the titan?

Also wondered by you moved your Phantom out of support range of the Revenants that were obviously going to get trashed by something coming out of those portals? Was it close to breaking or something?

I agree with Matt. RAW would indicate the 3+ save would be taken. The logic used to determine if it was hit by a crit explosion should be the same as that of a blast template.

Well, Drek rolled a "2" for the save, so it would've been a kill regardless... *laugh*

As an Eldar player, I'll still just take the normal armour save of 5+, even if my opponent allowed the 3+, if such a situation ever comes up again.

Thanks for the report, the necrons really suffered in that game.

Yep, I just couldn't make my Living Metal saves at all... sometimes a Monolith will shrug off a *Tank Company*... this was not one of those times... *laugh*

Thanks for reading!
