Didn't matter then, doesn't matter now, even less so with the World Wide Web, and Epicomms.
They trashed SM/AMTL, and ya now we still played campaigns, fought battles, and had small tournaments. Of course digging up minis when we could, scratch building what we couldn't find, and some of us molding some to fill in the gaps.
Then Epic40k, had a short time in the light, real short, and again we kept right on playing, digging up minis, etc....
Now Epic-A stands before us all, but this time we got our own world wide communications outside GW (I feel like Paul Williams when he was conducting the Ultimate Band during the 25th Aniversery show of American Band Stand, can you feel the power ), and can keep it alive with out them.
It is still my fervent hope that SG and Epic-A don't go the way of the Dodo, visa vi GW, but I am not worried about the game itself.
There is one sure thing about Jaldon and ships, if they are under my command then they are as good as sunk. Whether that be in space, or on water, even though I love Naval Games.
Played the AH game Jutland as a campaign with a number of friends, and I was given command of the German Battle Cruiser Squadron. In the first surface engagement of the campaign my entire squadron was either sunk, crippled, or flaming wrecks, all before I had closed to 20,000 yards
vanvlak, trust me you wouldn't need your self-immolating skaven to beat me in MOW, all you'd have to do is show up with an armed row boat
