Didn't matter then, doesn't matter now, even less so with the World Wide Web, and Epicomms.

They trashed SM/AMTL, and ya now we still played campaigns, fought battles, and had small tournaments. Of course digging up minis when we could, scratch building what we couldn't find, and some of us molding some to fill in the gaps.

Then Epic40k, had a short time in the light, real short, and again we kept right on playing, digging up minis, etc....

Now Epic-A stands before us all, but this time we got our own world wide communications outside GW (I feel like Paul Williams when he was conducting the Ultimate Band during the 25th Aniversery show of American Band Stand, can you feel the power :p ), and can keep it alive with out them.

It is still my fervent hope that SG and Epic-A don't go the way of the Dodo, visa vi GW, but I am not worried about the game itself.

There is one sure thing about Jaldon and ships, if they are under my command then they are as good as sunk. Whether that be in space, or on water, even though I love Naval Games.

Played the AH game Jutland as a campaign with a number of friends, and I was given command of the German Battle Cruiser Squadron. In the first surface engagement of the campaign my entire squadron was either sunk, crippled, or flaming wrecks, all before I had closed to 20,000 yards :{

vanvlak, trust me you wouldn't need your self-immolating skaven to beat me in MOW, all you'd have to do is show up with an armed row boat :l

Jaldon :oo

I've always been thrilled by the idea of big naval clashed. Haven't played anything but BFG though. We do have a blue table down at my gaming club...... hmmmm!  :cool:

Heh - but in any other game...... I'm hopeless, my army selection is hopeless, my deployment is painful, my moves execrable, and my die-rolls downright obscene!  :p  :D
So in Epic, for example, even the objectives could beat me without assistence! :blush:  :{

LOL! :D  We should have a battle sometime then. I bet it would be quite a sight. I would have had me executed on the spot if I was ever to try and command a real army. ("oh you mean you're supposed to pull the splits out of the hand grenades before you throw 'em? uh... Grenadiers pull back!" )

Cheers!

Mind you, my favourite battle ever was a Wathammer FB one in which both my and my opponents armies clashed in one great combat at the middle of the board, then promptly ran away en masse from each other! I guess we could recreate that in Epic scale....

Whatever rules you prefer, I fail to see why the fanbase has to depend on GW to develop or maintain. I'd be perfectly happy getting minis from GW and no rules.

I have to agree with you, Primarch. As long as we get minis from GW, I'm quite content.  :;):  There are enough talented people here to write and maintain rules for E:A.

Also, I've already thought about "net Epic A" and I'm comfortable with it.  :cool: NetEpic has already proven that fans can maintain (and improve) a set of rules for a game that is no longer produced.

There are so many things concerning the release of EA that I simply don't understand.

For instance - why on earth is it so expensive?! I mean - 8 stands of terminators... 10?!!! That's over the top IMO.
I shall refrain from even touching upon the siege masters!
Instead of that approach I think keeping with the plastics but increasing the amount of figures on each base would have been better... then it would at least look epic!

Secondly why release feral orks and other lists before tyranids, necrons, tau and chaos?!?!

In oh so many ways I think the best thing that could have happened was that necrons were released directly after ork, ig and sm. Hehe! That would have been immensely popular!

Epic expensive?  Have you seen the prices for 40k lately?  GW is doing their best to drive up prices and there is no end in sight.  I can't believe it's gotten to the point where Forge World prices seem reasonable.

My adivce?  Buy your bits off eBay.

I think it wouold have been far more sensible to release Chaos with the Eldar, and maybe another race.

As for prices I think the basic infantry boxes are great value (astartes battle company), but after that it's a bit much. ?10 for 8 terminator stands is a bit steep. The Eldar stuff's stupid too, the warhost box has 2 stands each of 5 aspect warrior types and Biel Tan need 8 stands for a warhost, meaning you need to mix 4 types of aspect warrior in a single formation. I think it would have better to have a guardian warhost box with the guardians, jetbikes, etc. with an aspect warrior box having many more stands for a reasonable price. Also means you won't need to end up with 8 guardian warhosts and a load of other stuff just to have a full formation of one aspect type. Still better value than 40K I agree.

Plastic models don't necessarily mean it'll be cheaper. I remember when they released plastic terminators, they cost ?25 the same as the metal ones. They didn't even need to design them, they were the same ones from the last incarnation of Space Hulk!

Agreed. I won an auction a week ago. For $13 I got a Phantom titan, 5 SM1 Imperial knights, 9 falcons and 2 warp hunters.

Hi!

Its a psychological thing I think.

Some people like seeing some endorsement from GW so its "official". Strange mindset, but a prevalent one.

I agree that people are more than capable of maintaining diverse epic rule versions themselves with little or no help from GW.

..but thats just me...  :;):

Hi!

Very true, if not for e-bay, acquiring epic would be much more difficult.
