Quote (nealhunt @ 03 2005 June,14:15) | My post probably sounded unduly harsh. ?I should be more clear. =======
What I object to is the inclusion of Titans AND Ordinati AND Knights, not minor support units. | I did not think you were harsh at all.
I think we need to keep in mind we were given a starting point from JJ before we started. One of his instructions was to include these things and create a "generic" Titan Legion list. The idea was that later we might have veriations like "Knight Household" or "AM Legion".
He even used the IG and Marines as examples. The basic generic IG list came first, then they took it and created Siege Masters etc. Same for the Marines. Generic first and then Blood Angelse etc.
In any case, I did not take your comments as Harsh or bad.

I would greatly prefer separate TL, AM (Ordinati), and Knight Household lists. The CI could be put into a new IG list, possibly Cadian for instance. I believe that would give a much crisper, cleaner flavor to units that really deserve the full treatment. |
Nealhunt, I agree with you on this. I love the CI, but I don't think it belongs in a TL; IG is a better fit. TL, AM and Knight Households do deserve their own lists.
I think the Fan Squat list for EA, not to mention the tremendous job on NetEpic, is clear evidence that this community can come up with really good "unofficial" rules to use those models. |
I also think you are absolutely correct with this point. After all, wasn't Netepic created in the first place to support SM2/TL after its demise at GW?
I've survived the death and rebirth of Epic many times since AT was released; I'm certainly going to survive when E:A withers on the GW vine. ?

I will admit, I like when a company takes the role of R&D for their product. By having a single point of "Officaldom" it helps keep some things in check.
However, having said that, I dislike when a company inists on being the "offical" souce but does not follow through with the responsability that goes with it.
GW has, many times, ignored a game then called foul when the fans take over.
Primarch, you are right, as long as we all join in, the effort is better off with the input.

Quote (primarch @ 05 2005 June,16:01) | I would really like to see more fan driven version take off. Its nice to have netepic around, but epic would be more robust if say a Netepic A or even a Netepic 40k existed. The amount of ideas and "cross-pollination" would drive each project for a long time. | I agree with this up to a point, and would be more than happy to actually lead the charge on this. The only thing that I am worried about is diluting the Epic population. While EpicA still features as part of the SG catalogue, and while the Vault is functioning as a rally point, then I think that a project like this could harm the game. However, if EpicA is ever totally dropped, the web site scrapped and SG disbanded (and two years ago I would not have believed that I would even be talking about this), then I would love to get this off the ground.
I guess that I will keep an eye on progress. I really like EpicA as a game, and it is my favourite version. I have not been tempted to consider this kind of action before.
