I found a cool new proxy for Ork SupaStompas:

http://www.dp9.com/Products/d20mechaminis.htm

DP-9's "Brute-class Goblin Coalsuit?"

What do you guys think?

-------------------------------

I'm cross-posting this message to three topics:

1. THE Gargant Discussion -> Epic Armageddon
2. Proxies for Epic miniatures. -> Epic Armageddon
3. Super stompa -> Epic Armageddon

I'd prefer that replies went to the:

THE Gargant Discussion -> Epic Armageddon ...

... topic, but it's really immaterial in the end.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Anyone been working on any Gargants lately?

I have my mind rumbling with ideas for some SupaStompas...

Hi!

Did you see the pictures Kr00za had on another thread for some gargant conversions?

They looked real good!

OK, guys - I've recently been trying to assemble an Ork army "on the cheap", giving myself a budgt of ?150 and buying from eBay and general second-hand stuff. Eventually, this should form an article for my site, once everything is obtained, with an update when it is all painted.

Anyway, I was going through what has arrived so far, and realised I haven't really got any ideas on how to assemble this into a respectable Ork army, so was hoping y'all might be able to help.

I guess the best place to start is to post a list of what I've got, ain't it?

NB: This is just what has already arrived there should be more stuff on the way in the post, too.

Firstly, I've got stuff from one auction that has already been "themed" into three clans - Goffs, Bad Moons and Evil Sunz. These figs have had a start made on painting them, but most aren't finished.

Goffs

4 Stompas
16 Battlewagons
5 Warboss stands
2 Nobz stands
1 Stormboyz stand
16 Boyz stands

Bad Moonz - this box also included a lot of random spare, unbased, figures, which I have yet to include in my ruminations.

12 Battlewagons
4 Nobz stands
15 Boyz stands (I know for a fact this includes one Wildboyz stand, mind you)
4 Dreadnouts (from the Stompas box)
9 Big Gunz (there are definately more than this in there, unbased, though - 5 Traktor Kannon and 4 Shokk Attack Guns)
2 Boar Boyz
1 Warbikes

Evil Sunz - this box also included a Kult of Speed
Evil Sunz
6 Battlewagons
3 Nobz
15 Boyz

Kult of Speed
5 Warbikes
10 Warbuggies

All of the above came from one auction - amazing what you can pick up for ?10 these days :)

Other stuff I've obtained:
9 Skorchas
3 Pulsa Rokkits
1 Doom Diver Magna Kannon
2 Gun Wagons (1 x Brain Crusha, 1 x Bone Cruncha)
3 Mekboy vehicles - 1 speedsta, one with a set of rokkits on it, and one with two guns (looks like a Speedsta w/ kustom kannon))

So, how do people think I should go from here?

Sounds like a great start.
I suppose the first thing is to organise Da Boyz into warbands, with the required extra nobz and it looks like you're going to have to break out the rice
Other than that really all you seem to need are flyers, some truks and a couple of stompers

1 - Get some Gretchin! That's the first problem, the gretchin you need with the boyz' mobs.
2 - select between the 3 possible ork armies you can get: you can do any of them with this as a start point, although you obviously need Gargants for Orkimedes' lot; what I'm not sure of is using common or garden orks for ferals. In other words, I'd say the EA rulebook ork list would probably work best.
3 - Would the unit of currency be ebay? or GW? or part and part i.e. do you want a To6g type presentation, for models which can be bought from GW? If yes, you've got a good sized army; if not, you'll have a massive lot!
4 - When you've selected your army and the currencytype (i.e. army size - decent or massive), fill in a couple of troop slots (big-uge  mobs) for a real ork-horde feel. Then see which vehicle/gun/walker type units you can form; then use any left overs for supporting the other units. Not brilliant, but practical. You should, however, decide on troop transport requirements to begin with. Whichever size of army you go for, it might not be possible to have transports for all - so keep the themes and have mobile speed freaks.
5 - the most opinionated bit yet - my ideal orky army would have:
1 or more big/huge boyz mobs for holding the line or advancing slowly.
1 Speed Freak section with transported troops and lots of vehicles in support
1 or more large tank-type units.
1 Stompa mob
1 Gargant
At least 1 flyer unit and at least 2 AA vehicles
1 Landa-based unit
er - which just about covers the whole army list......

:p

Sounds similar to what I was heading towards when I worked out rough 3,000 points army lists last weekend. About the only difference was in having some Battlefortresses/Gunfortresses instead of the Landa (because I have some of the former and none of the latter).

Pressure of work has prevented me from doing anything more than a bit of gluing so far.

Looking forward to seeing how this army develops.

Cheers

James

I'll address your points in order, Vanvlak (I'll also paragraph your quote a bit better :))

1 - Yes, I know I need Gretchin - though I'm hoping to avoid rice Grots. I need to take a look through my pile of stuff I picked up pre-Christmas, and see what Ork stuff is in there, and I also have a couple of auctinos that may or may not include Grots - one of them being one of the Ork Warband boxes for E:A. How many stands of Grots d'you think I'll need, to cover the current force?

2 - Given my answer to point 3, it might be possible to make it so I can use the army with all 4 lists, though that will depend on purchases.

3 - I'm using eBay? (or FLGS?, depending on source), as I'd like to show what it is possible to put together when you try to assemble a force 2nd hand, or when deliberaetly aiming for a discount.

4 - Pobably looking at expanding the Badn Moonz as one of the "core mobz", and probably the Goffs too. Evil Sunz seem OK (once they get some more battlewagons) for now, and I think I've got enough bitz for 2 small Kultz.

5 - I'm working on Gargants, and I'm tempted by having "Thunderbird 2" in the army, having seen it being used effectively in a couple of recent games.

Auctions won, but awaiting delivery
Lots of stuff - need to look at the orks as a % of that auction, and work out a cost from there. This also gives me some trade stuff :)

Small(ish) Epic Ork army - gets me some Gretchin, and some more ehicles.

Kult & Bad Moon expansion - need to go through this when it arrives, as this could be very useful.

Ah, thanks Mr. Dysartes :D A vast army then! Hope the purchases cover the gretchin question; and using all lists would be a good idea as you coud in this case have so many models. I like the Moonz, so thats great, and if you base on old fluff, you get to keep the Weirdboyz too (who else misses Warpheads?).
And go for the Thundabad, I agree that it can be used to excellent effect - anyway,
GREEN IS GOOD AND THUNDABADS ARE GO! :D :D
