Jervis has put an interesting explanation of the specialist games sales logic over at the playtest boards after we Aussies were whinging about the lack of support.

Its worth a quick read...

G/W and F/W don't appear to know what's going on many times...
On any given day it's anyone's guess. J.J., Tony, Andy, Gav...
Or the guy who runs the Fish & Chips place up the road from the G/W UK building?

Hi!

I was following that thread and here is the "in between the lines translation" of it:

Fanatic games don't sell well enough to justify sending stuff there. No game that doesn't sell on par with the core games such as 40k or warhammer will EVER get the support or resource allocation they do.

Never mind that there is a implicit vicous cycle in this line of thought:

no resource allocation--no product availability--no sales--no money made--which justifies not allocating resources in the first place.

Unfortunately while Jervis points out a very real issue about supply cost versus amount ot be sold, I think one should point out that even in places where this is an issue like GWUS, there WILL be store managers who will not order any Epic stating space constraints of other such things.

So while there may be some cost issues, there are also store "attitude" problems I think GW should look into.

Dafrca:  I just want to thank you for the work you are doing on the playtest board.

You know I'm pretty hardcore about that stuff, and I find myself unable to wade through all that.  Cheers to you for the effort you must be putting into it.

I hope that when the list gets a JJ review and posted to the vault that some of the insane amount of alternative proposals go away. :oo

Thanks again.

INdeed! :O  I gave up trying to folow all those threads months ago!
I guess I'm just not playtest material a I really don't like to argue on for ages about details, if this and that is fair or trying to make sense of all the insane ammount of numbercrunching! :p
I just have a few unitlls I'd like to see in the list and a few ideas how they could be included. Anything beyond that is not really my cup of tea.

Thanks for your efforts Daf. It is crazy that the AM/TL forum is growing bigger than the painting/modelling forum and you find the time to not only read, but also make sense of it all.

Cheers! :)

Indeed- and to echo WMN, I have found it hard to keep up with all of the long threads on unit selection and weapon stats.

I am sure that JJ will have appreciated the sheer amount of hard work that you have put in to getting a first draft playtest list up.

Cheers

James

Hear, hear, keep up the good work Dafrca. I've only skimmed through the 'finalised' list periodically rather than wade through the discussions, it's just too much work for me!

Just out of interest, neal, what do you think falls under the heading of "more insane proposals"?

I referred to an insane amount of proposals, not to insane proposals. ?Most of the proposals themselves make at least a modicum of sense.

Unfortunately, the sheer volume of the proposals is (for me, anyway) preventing meaningful discussion. ?Every thread rapidly generates discussion on 2 to 3 additional alternative proposals. ?It's not uncommon for discussion to degenerate into "My version!" ?"No, my version!" with very little progress being made.

This is not to be derogatory to anyone who is participating. ?They are polite, sincere, and generally have good ideas and solid arguments. ?It's just very a chaotic process and does not seem to be productive.

========

BTW, how do I go edit the title of this thread so I can fix that typo?

Ive said a few times in the AMTL section that it is quite confusing...I get pretty lost but Im determined to wade through it. Myself and a couple of others (Dysartes comes to mind   :;): ) have been trying to shift the discussion to a slightly 'broader' view, so that we dont get so bogged down in the details.

Progress is being made, and Ive certainly started to follow stuff and feel some things were being resolved recently...but in the last 24 hours (which sounds daft even as I write it) there seem to be a load of new topics that are gonna take a while to digest and get in to...

In response to the sheer number of proposals nealhunt...what Ive found is that actually making your opinion a proposal is the best way to get it acknowledged and responded to. It kinda logs it as an 'event' almost, that people actually see, rather than comments on someone else's work, which can get lost...but I will certainly grant it can get a little out of hand at times... :)

You need to use the 'Edit this Topic' link at the bottom of thepage, rather than the usual edit button on the post.  :-:

Reaversbane:  I understand that.  It just wears me out.  No worries, though.  I really think it will be more "stable" (for lack of a better term) once there is a playtest list posted.

BTW, you can just call me Neal instead of using the screen name.

Cybershadow:  I don't see it.  I see track, email, and print, and down at the very bottom in the Topic Options, it says "Close this topic."  Am I just blind?

Do you need to be a moderator to edit topic titles?

I agree that with so many suggestions floating arround the only thing left to do now is to hand it over to Jervis and let him go through it. The result will probably tick a bunch of people off because their suggestions weren't used but in the end the playtest board is their to help the game designers develop ideas, NOT to tell Jervis how he should make his game.

Cheers!
