For the past week or so I've seemed to have a lot of problems accessing the Playtesters forum. sometimes i can access but get kicked off when i try to access individual topics. Other times i simply cannot acces the forum itself.
I remember that the servers have been acting funny before but I thought they had solved it. anybody else got this problem?

Cheers!

oh yes, it happen to me quite often. I think that their Server/connection is showing its limits, and that the service partially colapse at some time under pressure, but it's just an hypothesis...

Its happend fairly reguarlarly, its because the load on the server is too high (the Epic fourms share the same server as the GW UK online store :\)

The crashes seem to be more frequent since they added forums for Warmaster and Mordheim. Whenever the Epic forums are down, the warmaster and mordheim ones are too, so I would assume they added more forums to the already overloaded server :\.

GWs webmasters seem to be rather below average IMO  }:)

Jervis has just posted this in the E:A forum. Thought you may be interested, so:

-------------------

At present we're looking to get Chaos back into production in 2006 and the Tyranids back into production in 2007. I hope that the army lists for the two armies will be ready much earlier than that, but this will be the earliest we can make the two miniature ranges available again.

The armies will be based primarily on the model range from the last edition of Epic (Epic 40,000), rather than giving them a 'complete overhaul' as I'd originally planned, but we will probably be able to make a few new models to flesh out each range. For example, I pretty sure we'll be able to make the Defiler and Obliterators for the Chaos army, but the Deathwheel and Decimator are a lot less likely.

Please note that this doesn't preclude us from including the Deathwheel and Decimator in the Chaos army list. One of the benefits of of the new set-up for Fanatic is that the old rule that 'all units in the army lists needed to be supported by a Citadel Miniaature' has gone. This will allow me to _consider_ including Forge World models in tournament lists, and also allowing units you have to convert or scratch-built. However, if such units appear we'll need to be very careful to maake sure that they are not core units the army really needs to include, but are rather fun units to include if you want to but which are not vital or game-winning.

But I digress. Returning to the subject of when we'll release new armies for Epic, we're still working on how we'll deal with the Necron and Tau armies. There are a number of 'irons in the fire' with regard how to get them into production, and as soon as I know something for certain I'll let you guys know about it too. In any case, no matter what we decide, the earliest anything could happen is 2008.

Best regards,

Jervis Johnson
Head Fanatic

Well, that's something I suppose, and the usual long waiting list (plus extensions) I'm sure will apply, soldier on, and lets see what happens.
Thanks for the heads up

I am starting to get the same feeling that I had with the last edition, that any large developments wont happen. Even when we are told that Necrons and Tau are on the way, and Chaos and Tyranids have a date for completion, I wont 100% believe it until I see them.

Still, the good news is that the lists are becoming a lot more flexible now, and I like the idea of having units that people need to convert or build. If I only see the release of a few Tyranid infantry then I will be happy.

Quite an interesting post in my mind. I am less negative on it. First, it is more realistic in the time frame and budget way of thinking. Next, it addresses the "core" armies that have been hanging. Chaos and Bugs needed to be done.

The rest, I could live with lists and FW minis if need be.

Necrons are the big unknown, IMHO, since Taus have the FW range. Regarding OGBM and AT lists, I'd like to see FW produce some Titans/Gargants conversion kits/weapon kits, like they already do for some WH40K models.

I think it is a positive step, addressing the big issue of LONG waits for what are core armies of the range.  The reduced mini range is a sticking point though and could pave the way to minimal new candies.  We'll have to wait and see as usual I guess

Jervis post leads me to believe SG will just make the infantry and leave the vehicles for Necrons and Tau to FW.

I could live with that. FW vehicles are acceptably priced (compared to GW prices, that is) but their epic infantry is a stockholder's dream come true.
