But isn't this going back on what they said, they can't make metal models along side plastic because the plastic will sell amazingly better.
Just a thought
Cheers

It depends, Metal is the only way to get certain units like Termies and Rough Riders... sure you can go without, but you games will be that much harder and more predictable.

Quote (Jimbo @ 08 2003 May,21:56) | of course no one has mentioned the "huge" disadvantage that the new plastics will bring...
I won't be able to sell a few Imperial Guard sprues on eBay now for silly amounts of money
bah humbug
 | Of course we can! The amount of 'OOP' stuff that I have seen on EBay going for a higher price than GW sells is stupid. And anyway, the sprues that we have will be OOP, and people will really want old plastic versions of the specialists.
The marketting and production with GW has always been dubious for me, but this is the best solution that I could think of. This is great for the gamers, and not just for the company. GW gets a lot of (justified) bad flak for their marketting policies, but this seems to be done for the player and the game, not just profits. And that is the fist time that I have said that about GW in a LONG time.

I just ordered a =][= Dread for Darkone from G/W US and the Troll knew nothing about the plastic infantry ! Not surprising, based on the differences between G/W US, UK, & Down Under ! So I told him to check out this site ! Anyway, he said G/W US still has some plastic Epic sprues, including Chaos, so some still exist on this side of the Atlantic. Hot (or not so hot) news from the Front ...

Darkone- I guess we will see Fanatic producing Tau and Cadians in the future, but the reason I was dubious about wether they will be in metal is that they will only be able to produce the planned sprues in plastic is because the planned ones Jervis has told us about will be modified versions of the ones that we have now (costing far less than tooling a new mould)- and as there are no existing moulds for plastic sprues of Cadians and Tau, then there are none to modify- and so Fanatic, if they wanted to produce these items, would have to get completly new moulds cut- something that is not in their budget at the moment, dissapointingly..

Based on everything that I read, (and 12 years of playing Epic) all new infantry will be in metal (?) ... Cadians (?), Steel Legion (?), Tau (?), Necrons (?), etc., etc., no G/W molds exist in Epic scale for these forces. But as surprising as the recent Jervis proclaimation was, Who knows, it's anyone's guess ?

Hi!
I agree with stormseer in that new moulds of units that dont currently exist may be long in coming if ever. That will depend on how well the game does. But we should focus on how incredibly good it will be to have plastics at all! I can live with no new unit plastics as long as older more common ones are available for newbies.

Yes, it appears, Jervis & Co. are going to reorganize the old plastic molds. New infantry types, like say, Steel Legion, or Raptors, etc., will probably be metal and a long way off. But it's anyones guess.

Has anyone ever approached Jervis with the idea to do sprues with only one type of troop and vehicles only (i.e. standard IG, Russ' and Chimeras for IG, Rhinos and LR for Sm, etc.., etc..) and then the specialist metal figures. Hence you could build up a solid core for an army and then add-on whatever specialists you prefer to suit your style of warfare, Just thinking out loud I guess.

Yeah, this would be nice, similar to the sprues for the SM editions of Epic- for Space Marines you could get ones with, funnily enough, Land Raiders, some Rhinos, and Tactical SMs for the Rhinos.... However, with the budget Fanatic currently has, this will be impossible- they cannot afford to make up new moulds, only to modify the old ones, which Jervis has said will happen... While this is a little dissapointing, it does mean we will get cheap infantry when Epic A comes oput, which is good!

I think that is wishful thinking. I believe only the plastic Infantry is is going to be redone. All the plastic vehicles, mostly SM will be redone in metal (we already saw the Rhino), to reflect the new 40K versions. There was never a plastic Chimera (in Epic scale) and we will probably never see one (no need). Plastic molds are much more expensive than metal. And that's the bottom line - $ ...
