Hello all,

I am dabbling with the idea of purhasing a few aircraft instead of the normal 'tanks and Chimeras' from Forgeworld.

If you've the time, would you post if you think:

a) They're any good (Model-wise, no reason why they wouldn't be, everything else is excellent!).

b) If the aircraft are a worthwhile investment (points & cash-wise) for Epic-A.

Cheers.

I have all the Epic Forge World models including the Tau & Kroot and many of the terrain pieces. All very nice, but a little "pricey", however the quality is worth it.  I say "buy" ... :D , but that's me ...

I like the Forgeworld aircraft, but the metal ones work just as well and are a fraction of the price of Forgeworld resin.

Plus, the specialized variants of the Forgeworld aircraft are just "counts as" models in tournament play. In other words, the extra detail on the models doesn't do much for you outside of aesthetics and scenario play.

I think Forgeworld is really for collectors, which is almost where Epic is now: a game for collectors since so few play it any more. I'm not sure if E-A will be the game that helps to "relaunch" Epic. The game's shortcomings are blaring. I don't see new blood getting attracted to the game and without more customers, Epic, most likely, won't fly.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I just hope they release the Epic models for E-A they mentioned, whether it's a success or a failure. ?Either way, Forge World will probably continue to produce Epic, a little at a time ... I hope ?:{ ...

100% PUREE PMA here then.

Come on guys, any newbies reading this would be totally put off.

Any shortcomings in the games (including some GLARING crud in the regular GW catalouge) will not be apparent to most people.

All we require is that people buy the game and the line continues to be supported by GW.

Any problems with the rules can be corrected as Herr Johnston himself states, (Verbatim) "House rules will make up a large part of any game", we can correct any problems we find with it!

The negativity pervading MANY comments on this board is discouraging, we all have the right to our opinoins, but tearing it apart before we see whats released acheives nothing (except we all have a laugh ripping apart GW!)

My two pence!

Well I agree with you for the most part. ?I hope I didn't come off as negative. I've been "Epicing" since '90, and have been thru SM1, SM2, E40K and I have bought almost all Epic models, rules etc. ?We play a "hybrid" rule system and I have e-mailed Jervis numerous times. So I'll buy Epic G/W & F/W regardless. ?Sorry, I hope everyone who is interested, will buy E-A, I really look forward to the new models, etc. ?I don't always agree with the marketing, rules etc., for Epic.  It's sometimes easy to be critical, read some of my past posts, here,  but so far G/W & F/W have got a lot of my $ over the past 12 years. So I say start saving your $ boys, I will ... E-A is coming ... and I want a piece of the action ! :;):

Neilhunt posted something on the playtest forum that made me wonder:

What is the most played armies?

Now, I know many of you own more then one army. I just am curious what is your "prime" or main army first.

For me, I own Eldar, IG, and SM but given my rathers I would play IG.

What about the rest of you?

Right now, Orks.  I also own IG, SM, Eldar, Chaos, and a small but growing tyranid army.

Maybe creating a poll would be a cool idea (not that I have the foggiest idea how to do it). :D

I know this isn't interesting, but I just love the Space Marines :p .  I have all the armies for each edition of Epic, but have always thought the good old Marines where da best.

I have always been impressed with Ork, Tyranids, and Chaos minis.  I thought I really liked the Eldar, but I actually think the newer molds are the best (*ducking as fellow players throw trash at me*)  :D .  I like the IG, but only play them went I want something plain and boring. I play Squats when I feel odd. ???

If I were to invest in an army for EpicA (which I doubt), it would be the Dark Eldar if they ever got made.  :angry: Maybe Necrons too.  I don't care for the Tau.  :{

Let's see:

AT-1:

- I started out playing a loyalist titan group of my own design. I liberally borrowed from my Battletech mechs during this period.

SM-1:

- When SM-1 / Codex Titanicus came out, I started playing Orks / Gargants who were competitive at this stage. I also played a generic SM chapter and had a small force of IG.

- I wanted to build some Exodite Eldar, but they never materialized.

SM-2:

- I expanded my IG at this stage and built up my SM chapters to have Blood Angels, Ultramarines, and Dark Angels.

- I became a big player of Squats as well.

- I started a nascent and very small force of Eldar.

- I acquired a few Orks in trades, but Orks weren't a competitive force in this version of the game. They were very amusing though. There was nothing quite like seeing Gargant bowling balls ruin things or a Snotling Warp Gun Attack Team take down a titan.

TL:

- I built some Tech Guard that looked, more or less, just like IG except for the megatitan in the background.

- I started a small force of Tyranids.

- I played the Orks a little.

Epic-40k:

- I expanded and actually painted tons of Eldar for this version of the game. It is now my largest best painted army. Most of them are craftworld Eldar, but I have a small force of Exodites, but few of the Exodite miniatures. I also built a few Eldar pirates.

- I started scratch-building a Necron force around this time for Epic.

- I expanded my Tyranids to have enough for average games.

- I painted some of my IG to be a desert unit at this point.

- I have a very small amount of Tau pieces, but not enough to play anything. They're really expensive!

E-A:

- I'm building a substantial E-A Ork force. I have mainly playtested the Orks against SM and IG.

- I'm also building some of the odder IG units such as Militia, Hive Gangers, Planetary Guard, Storm Troopers with Valkyries, and the like.

- I want to make a small Silver Skulls SM Chapter when I get around to it.

---------------------------------------------

I've spent most of my time playing Imperials (SM and IG), but I played Squats an awful lot in SM-2 (acquired them first as Imperial allies until the Imperials became allies for the Squats!). After the SM-2 / TL era, I played Eldar. As of E-A I have been playing Orks. I experimented with small forces of the others with the various Epic editions as they came out and don't really know who my favorite is. I like them all except for chaos. I've never liked chaos.

I planned to play Orks as my primary force during E-A, but am convinced that they're just not that competitive in comparison to the IG and SMs anymore.

I'll probably play an IG force now or use Eldar as primaries if the data and my experience continue to indicate that E-A Orks are goose eggs.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

P.S.
I'm really enjoying converting the Orks for E-A. They're a ton of fun to build, convert and paint.

I mostly play Chaos. Have since SM2 (which the was the first and last Epic game I played before EpicA).

I was building an Ork force for EpicA but I will be abandoning it for Eldar and Chaos.

So if anyone wants to trade some Ork bits (metal vehciles, plastic sprues, boyz on rectangular bases, Titans) for Eldar and Chaos figs drop me a line.
