1/285 scale jeeps from WWII should work nicely. They may be small enough to mount on a base.

Many thanks for the warm welcome!
The only reason I figured on Salamander is because I had them and had factored out horses in the small bit of fluff I wanted to write about the army. Basicly its a machine based army ala Adeptus Mechanicus but of course using the printed rules for SL IG. I thought it would give the army a different flavor using the proxy RR to reflect the strong influence of tanks. I have been keeping my eyes open for IG bikes and even IG assault troopers to also use. No luck on Ebay so far. If anyone out there has enough bikes or IG assault troops to fill out the six stand formation please let me know. :D  I like the IG bikes but not the Space Marine ones. Just cant find them. :{

Hi!

Doesn't Irregular make some 6mm cavalry that could be converted as rough riders?

An other idea if you don't like the rough riders: look at the range for warmaster models. There is plenty of different kinds of cavalry there. With minimal conversion, or simply with some nice painting to match your force they should work as trough riders.

Hi!

Wouldnt the warmaster ones be too big Xavi? They are 10mm. Then again epic is known for its coherency with scale.... :;):

Hi!

True. I did something like that with some proxy units in our netepic slann army and used 10mm lizards mounted on dinos with a large tech heavy weapon. The model looks real good and you can explain away the size difference.

Got those Pendraken figs too (both mounted and dismounted) !  Not sure what I'm going to do with them.  But they are cool ! What's Sci-Fi without lizardmen !   :D

If you want some of the Guard Bikes here are a couple of auctions for you to bid on:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....89&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....50&rd=1

Either will give you enough bikes for a couple of RR squads.

I checked out those two auctions and they look like SM bikes. I will bid on one anyway. Cant hurt to use them I guess. I wanted to stay away from using any (animal) type due to the whole theme of my army. Sort of based on a Battletech Regimental Combat Team. Combined arms with vehicles. No soft and chewy animals to get in the way :;):

Those are IG bikes allright. But yes, they do look very similar.
I agree that the idea of using horses in the 40k universe is a bit... well, funny. Other weird steeds maybe but the fact that horses have survived 40.000 years of war largely unchenged seems a bit weird.:;):
I still have a company of them though -for collectors purposes of course:cool:

Cheers!:)

One of the ways you can tell the differance in these kinds of photos is look at the back of the bike. The Marine bikes have a smooth drop off and the Guard Bikes have a small point, almost like a back seat or something. The driver is smaller as well. The Marine bike has the sholder pads very obvious and the guard bike you almost only see the head of the guardsman.

The auction where the bikes are loose it is very easy to see the rear "hump" when you know what to look for. In the other one, I admit it is harder to see.

Gulp! An extract from Dafrca's twenty-four volume 'Taxonomy of bikes and jetbikes of the early 41st millennium'
Cheers, Dafrca! Nice to have a corresponding reference encycolpaedia around! Now I have to see if the marine bikes you sent me correspond to the description!:p :p
