Quote (CyberShadow @ 18 2004 June,10:28) | | Now, I'm only going to talk about models that I actually OWN.
Favourite: Infantry trooper: Terminator. They are fun to convert! IG Codex Grey tactical troops are nice, too. Light Vehicle: Squat Trikes. Standard Tank: Land Raider (plastic ones. They're so... numerous! I'd love to get a company of those Epic 40K Leman Russes, though!). Super Heavy: Ordinatus Armageddon, for looks. Overlord Airship for play value. Flier: Marauder Fighter-Bomber MK1. Titan (type and class): Imperator (C'mon, it's a robot with a gothic cathedral on its back! That's COOL! The old Eldar Titans were gorgeous, too, though I never had any.)
Least favourite: Infantry trooper: SM Scout (okay, I don't have any of these, but they look horrible!) Light Vehicle (plastic Thudd gun. The barrels aren't round! Too late to modify them now; they're glued together!) Standard Tank (Vindicator MK2. Why did I buy these?!?) Super Heavy (I really like all of my superheavies. I haven't bought a Leviathan yet because I don't care for its look. The CI would be much cooler...) Flier (Thunderhawk MK1) Titan (type and class) (My Warhound MK1s are the worst of the lot, but that isn't saying much. I love my mecha. I know they're silly, but so are the squat bikers. I don't care! The new Eldar titans are abominable; I would never allow one into my home!)
Oh well, I didn't quite stick to talking about my own collection. Sue me.

Whats up people. I love the sergeant mini. I use him as much as I can.
My favorite minis (and I am always right)
Favourite: Infantry trooper : Epic 40k Chaos Sorceror Light Vehicle : SM2/TL Eldar Vyper Standard Tank : I almost want to say the trusty old plastic Rhino (which I think they did a great job with), but I think the Epic 40k Eldar Falcons are simply the best done in this scale. Super Heavy : Epic 40k Scorpion Flyer : Any combo of the Epic 40k Ork Fighter Bomber Titan (type and class) : Reaver, with a Powerfist, Multi-Launcher, and Lascannon. Second would be the SM2/TL Ork Great Gargant with the goggle eyes. Other (in case I missed anything) : Just about anything on the Epic 40k Eldar Infantry sprue, and I do think some of the Eldar Knights from SM1 are classics (not all, but some)
Least favourite
Infantry trooper: Original Chaos Marines (I don't care if there were one of each power) Light Vehicle: SM2/TL Imperial Bikers (Never used them so I thought they were a waste of plastic) Standard Tank: Original Hellhound. God that thing sucked. Or the boxy Vindicator (I think the 2nd one). Both hurt my eyes. Super Heavy: Leviatian Flyer: Squat Overlord Titan (type and class): Was never big on the original Warhound, although I am a big fan of Forge World's Epic 40k version, but even still the original isn't as bad as the new one, which I like to pretend doesn't exist. Screw it, the Epic 40k Eldar Revenant Titan sucks the worst. Other (in case I missed anything): SM1 Imperial Knights. There was only two that I liked. The rest I agree with Legion on. I can't for the life of me, understand how they ever made it to the production line.
Keep in mind I have been a big fan since AT/SM, so I even have a place in my heart for the original plastic Ork Battlewagons and MK.6 Marines. I think the best models and designs came during Epic 40k, but there are some classics from the early editions. I think many of the worst did come from SM2/TL.

Well I just ordered my semi-final shipment of Orks, I will finally have a complete army, no more warmaster proxies. This army will of course have to be expanded, but that will come later. In the mean time I need to start a second army. My gaming group is not large and the number of people with the time/money and/or inclination to build up an army is even smaller. So I need a second army to lend to other players.
So, I am trying to figure out which other army to use. I have narrowed it down to 2 armies: the IG and the Eldar. Both have their pluses and minuses. On the plus side the IG are a simple and easy to understand army that is also well balanced. On the minus side I dont really want to paint them.
For the Eldar, the more I look at the Eldar minis the more I want to paint them. They could be a very colorful army. They are also easy to win with, apparently, a good bonus when introducing someone to the game. However, the Eldar also have lots of special rules that might be hard for a newbie to remember. Then there is a balance issue, I have an opponent who is building an SM army and I would not want to obliterate him and win with an army list rather than skill, should I wish to take the Eldar army for a change of pace. Finally I find the Beil-Tan army list to be counter to fluff, or at least my idea of the Eldar. Hmm, maybe making my own fan list would fix this problem.. I'll have to think about this some more...
Anyways, anyone have any suggestions to help with my delema?
