What I think: NO

First of all, sorry for the controversy, if any :-X . Some of you might know why I post this today, but well...

Is 6mm obsolete (Nowadays) because GW released AT in 8mm? Just because GW released what... 4 or 5 models for a giant robots fighting game...? ::) Isn't this being a fanboy to the very extreme? it's not even half a dozen of designs...

Or... maybe they say it's obsolete because they really believe GW is going to also re-release EPIC in 8mm, given that AT is in 8mm (if only :'( ). GW is never going to release EPIC again (6mm, 8mm or any XXmm) for a very simple reason: it would destroy GW's other games.

Please prove me wrong because I really want to be mistaken.

AT isn't '8mm', that appears to be a misunderstanding of one of the designers saying that Marines would work out at 8mm tall.

The new Forgeworld tile has a wrecked Leman Russ on it that's within 10% of the existing Epic versions.

Whatever GW release now won't change the fact that (a) EA is an excellent game and (b) our
group plays it on a regular basis.

There is a definitely a fan boy perception that a game becomes obsolete when 'official' support
is withdrawn. That you can't continue to play games you love just because there is another
version or it is no longer published. Think of the convulsions that followed the shift from
Warhammer Battle to Age of Sigmar.

If you love the game, keep playing !

I think many wise people on the FB groups agreed that AT is exactly 7.5mm, they measured the models, compared to the FW stuff, and other reasonings... I saw the LR on the tile, and well, it is actually a piece of scenery, not an actual model ::) but anyways, that's another topic.

The Titans are 1/4th debiggerizations of their 32mm models. Ergo 7.4 to 7.5mm

The tanks, if the leman russ is indicative would be 6.8 or 6.9mm

What's that mean? Probably frack all other than FW/GW have no consistency.

Interestingly the next RoB tile has a crashed flyer. Will be curious to see what happens with that.

The tank was probably an old Epic model

Not here too, the amount if times this subject has come up on the AT 18 FB page with the game being stated as 8mm scale with some zeal by fanboys, whilst others have had a more enlightened view.

As jimmyzimms states the Russ tank indicates a scale more like 7mm than 8 so it will be interesting to get a measurement of the crashed fighter on that other board to see how consistent scaling will be.

A marine at 8mm (my Elites minis already are 8mm) does not mean the game is 8mm scale as marines are not regular human sized in height (this is well known even if not always reflected with the miniatures). Epic infantry figures got larger as time went on, just look at the later plastic marine and ork characters on the sprues for example.

Vanguard's regular human figures are 6.5mm to the eyes so pretty much 7mm, this has always been the case since before I purchased the original range of minis from Troublemaker, I have continued to retain a consistent scale across the range ever since including chunkier vehicles that work better with the infantry.

But anyway I digress, IMHO using epic minis alongside the AT titans, knights works perfectly fine, I have seen both players and modellers happily doing so with no issues.

Having studied the mini in question I would say it is definitely not an old epic model, not one I have ever seen in my time as an epic collector anyway and I've been collecting since first edition AT's original release.

I just assumed that they would be as lazy as me and use something they had sitting around :-)

Aside from the FW Warhounds I've never really thought that the Epic titans were large enough so these new models seem perfect. If a touch expensive

I actually suspect they didn't have anything actually laying around TBH. That stuff was long before they went down the CAD route.

I'll be using AT titans mainly to play Epic alongside my existing armies so I don't see that it makes anything obsolete.

There are now probably lots more AT players than Epic players, but that's an opportunity to try to recruit some of them to give Epic a try with their AT titan legion.

Considering lots of these players repeat the same call of "so when can we have space marines and tanks with our titans?", and these are not current or even lapsed Epic players... Yeah. It's a big opportunity.

To be honest, among folks I know (and their teenagers) I'm seeing more interest in Space Marine rules than E:A though.

Interestingly enough, the EA Space Marine vehicles were the first CAD models they did. The Land Raider was first IIRC.
