+1 to all that JZ.
Marines are actually quite a hard list to make a competitive build for, especially if you want something different from the thawk termies warhound build.
Cheers

Jim

totes.
Edit: Codex Marines are harder to build outside of that. Not Marines in general which is somewhat sounds like my original post was meaning. We've got some tough as nails ground lists, just people need to not be so skurrrd to actually just field them.

I'm really surprised that more people don't take other marine lists out (well other than WS, that needs LOTS of work ;D ) but as they say, old habits...

Nice to see you around Jim!

This is the list I am using for this weekends game. I hope my mate is not too deflated to turn up. He has a newly 3D printed and painted Eldar army, and could provide me with a nice Eldar army to face off against. I also have Eldar he can borrow if needed.

50 points – Portable Wraithgate
kalabites 1325 points
275 points – Coterie – Archon, 4 Incubi, 1 Raider, 2 Venoms
350 points – Syndicate – Dracon, 6 Warriors, 3 Raiders, 1 Barge of Pleasure
275 points – Syndicate – Dracon, 6 warriors, 2 Raiders, 2 Venoms
375 points – Flotilla, Dracon, 6 Ravagers [BTS]
Partisans 1225 points
250 points – Reavers – Succubus, 6 Reavers
250 points – Reavers – Succubus, 6 Reavers
250 Points – Heavy Barge – 1 Vessel of Pain
250 Points – Heavy Barge – 1 Vessel of Pain
225 points – Talos – 4 Talos
400 points AC max 1/3 army
200 Points – Razorwing – 2 Razorwings
200 Points – Razorwing – 2 Razorwings

I could drop the 275 point syndicate and the pair of venoms in the coterie just to add in 4 more Talos, and add a Barge of Pleasure to the Coterie. That means 10 formations. The only thing is I am trying to see how Kalabite warriors - Kalabite syndicates perform, especially not that they can not shoot from their transports. I want to keep the 2 reaver formations and the 2 VoP as well as the Ravager Flotilla. I need the 2 razorwing squadrons for air cover.

I tend not to use the UK meta of more engagements than ranged attacks. I prefer to move-shoot-move. Overwhelm an area with fire power backed up by some assaults, and then relocate to take objectives the enemy leaves poorly protected in order to counter attack me. I escape their counter thrust, parry and strike the area they leave open. Just like a hit and run raider army would using lots of drive-by gang shoot-em up tactics, and then when they are nearly broken or licking their wounds, I go in for the kill. grab objectives, try and take out the BTS, ot Blitz, etc.

I would have preferred to add in another Syndicate rather than the Talos and the Portable wraithgate in order to see if Warriors en-mass were worth taking. I have already sent the list to my opponent for review. Too late to change it now. He might not be able to make it to Newcastle(NSW) at the end of the month, as he might have other commitments.

Perhaps next time I could make the army more close combat orientated with the Coterie (with added goodies), the basic Flotillas, Wyches, Haemonculi, lots of Reaver gangs, 8 Talos, P/Wraithgate, and a Titan or 2.

Should be interesting. Personally I find Craftworld Eldar among the more difficult lists for DE to deal with due to the abundance of skimmers rendering many of the DE heavy hitters fairly useless. Careful use of Slavebringers barging things out of the way to create space for dismounting wyches is in order. The Barges could do it too.

In a shooting match up I'd be even more concerned, Craftworld Eldar can put out a lot of firepower.
