"You may" and "but" do make it vague, but I agree with what Kyuss is saying: rolling all CC or all FF is still splitting the hit dice. CC hits go on base contact enemy only, and FF hits go enemy not in base contact but within 15cm and LoS. I've played it that way as long as I can remember.

I'll also add that it's 100% definitely played that way at EpicUK events

Ok, that's good enough for me. Given you have barge moves I guess it only comes up with the slower CC Titans anyhow. (Or if you don't know that's how it's generally played.)

Yes exactly, hence why I am confused by what KIC is saying... why point out that you have the option to not split attacks, then point out that splitting attacks is exactly the same as splitting them? :eh Sorry I just am being thick here, I don't get it :)

you may split the attacks however you want, that includes splitting them (DC) - 0

because 'not splitting attacks' is functionally the same as 'splitting' them 8-0 they are the same..... I honestly don't know how to phrase it any differently, I'm sorry I think my first post was more hastily written which may be the cause of the confusion

I was saying that not 'splitting' them meant you can choose to do all CC or all FF so the attacks aren't 'split' but that is just another way of splitting them (X-0 versus X-1)

in other words, when a war engine fights in an assault, you must *always* choose how you are dividing your attacks between CC and FF, even if you don't 'divide' them at all, because CC attacks can only hit units in BTB and vice versa for FF, the passage basically replaces the usual engagement rules for war engines

Yes. Think if them as two pools or buckets to split the attack dice into as you want. There's always two buckets irrespective of how many dice, if any, are put into them.

Ahhhhh OK I think I get what you were saying now - by "remember you have the option not to split the attacks" you only meant "you aren't forced to allocate at least 1 hit to FF". It just didn't occur to me that the rules could be read that way.
