Hey guys - sorry for the delay, I'm currently on vacation.

Once I get back I will post what I've been drawing for the Grud. Yes the Sisterhood have pods - but they need to be adjusted a bit in design because they were way to fiddly to put together.

Moridin - those Succubi look great!

Hi Deacon.

Liking your background quite a bit. getting a very strong Dune vibe off of it. It evokes a similar flavor to the 40K universe while actually being very different, and I like that. I do however, have difficulty suspending disbelief on one part of it.

I just have a hard time accepting reproduction as the hostage that the Sisterhood holds to keep everyone in line. I don't see how it works. Even if some massive apocalypse left a sizable population alive but sterile, subsequent cloned generations would not be and so regular reproduction would resume with the next generation. Unless the sisterhood are sterilizing everyone after they come out of the cloning cylinders (which would tend to ruin their rep as "champions of the common people")? You indicated that it was after the long war that humanity began expanding rapidly out into the galaxy, so the sterility can't be an environmental condition that effects new populations because that condition wouldn't be on any of the new planets humanity has settled.

I'm just not getting this part.

Want to hear more about the non-human (and OTC) factions though.

Going to leave this here http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... ariosMaxim ;)

However you elegantly solve the problem yourself by stating the could engineer them un turn to be sterile or otherwise unable to reproduce or consistently so (much like self terminating corn which is mainly what's planted). If it prevents species extinction then on a macro level it really is benevolent, albeit in cold calculating nietzschen manner.

Another possibility is simply that they have so been in that role that any other approach is so outside the realm if social possibilities as to be effectively impossible despite they theoretically could. Much like how full grown elephants can be tied with a string because they were taught from birth they couldn't break a chain, the pattern of ingrained behavior carrying through.

Or you know...rule of cool ;)

ForgottenLore - good points man, and I want people to dig into this stuff before it becomes available to a larger audience.

The reason behind the Sisterhood needing to produce new people on Terra are a few fold:

First: Humankind Has not colonized many worlds outside of our own solar system, and those that are populated have seen hundreds years of war using the most horrible weapons the Dukes could envision. While people still live and work on them, their environments are completely saturated with harmful radioactive by-products of the Long War among other contaminants left over from virus and chem bombing and the like. The people living on these worlds typically sterilize themselves as a natural step of the maturing process as severe birth defects, still births, and terrible complications during pregnancy occur more often than not. Instead - families wanting a child register themselves with the sisterhood and undergo various checks and screenings. If they qualify, and the house they serve are within their population limits, a child is granted to them by the Sisterhood. The Sisterhood is commonly held in high regard by the general population for ensuing each new child is Healthy, Well Educated, and Delivered only to families in which they have the best chances for happy lives.

Second: While Mankind has access to FTL drives, artificial gravity still alludes them. Aside from the large, spinning cylinder portions of their starships which artificially provide a fraction of Earths Gravity for living quarters, Federation ship crews live and work in zero-g. While fertilization in Zero Gravity is possible, the development of the fetus suffers greatly making reproduction off-world problematic and ill-advised. Generally speaking, any member of a ships crew have spent their developmental years on-world, and have already been sterilized anyway. In addition, ship crews are required to spend their times between deployments on-world to avoid the harmful effects of prolonged zero-g exposure, thus exposing them to all the harmful effects of living on most Federation worlds.

Third: Many of the Worlds colonized by the Federation outside of the Sol system are habitable, but present their inhabitants with a variety of harsh environments and gravity far different from Earths. Mammal reproduction is quite temperamental and does poorly on alien worlds for these reasons. Therefore, humans on those Federation worlds which have not seen the ravages of the Long War still face a variety of potential issues in regards to reproduction and largely opt for children from Terra to avoid serious complications. As of now - a new "Earth-like" planet has yet to be discovered. Such a world would be of incalculable value to the Dukes...

I will provide some more in-depth fluff in the future on the Federation and other alien races, but wanted to back up what I have posted so far with more detail.

Just thought I'd show you a quick WIP shot of what I'm working on - a hound base model:

Image

These will be used for a number of models including:
War Hounds (wolf-like creatures)
Dire War Hounds (Horse-sized hounds)
Avian Hounds (bird-like hounds)
Stygian Crimson Hounds (horrible demon/alien beasts of the viscera queen)
Hellborn Slaughter Hounds (Hellhounds - maybe two heads?)

Anyways - loads of potential units using this base model.
