Nice report. Sounds a bit like a case of the Salamanders being ground down by an enemy with way more activations? They did well considering how badly the first few turns went though!

The only time I have taken a real beating was against an IG army, and the guy (who I had played many times before) pitted me against an army with so many activations that my SM couldn't cope and got blown apart!

Nice to see someone else using vindicators. I am a big fan, but I seem to be in the minority!

Nothing worse than the dice gods taking a dislike to you. I had that with my SHT company first time I played as IG. 4 turns they did.... Nothing except soak up some shots from the enemy.

Your reports are always great, and I am jealous of how many games you have time to play!

Thanks for the report Greg!
Minor point: looks like you guys used CAP-A-CAP during the T-hawk assault (unless I've misunderstood the report) - were you aware that it's a house rule? From the FAQ (I believe), you can only CAP aircraft formations that are on a ground attack move.

If you could get Gregg, Britt, and Trent to comment on the EC list (taking into the account the regrettable luck of the Salamanders) here or on the EC 4.0 thread, that would be much appreciated.

We see vindicators around here a lot - they tend to do well as assault preppers/supporters. Not so good against terminators in CC though, as confirmed in your report ;D

captPiett, This was our first 4000 point battle with the Emperor's Children. I very much like the EC army list and didn't notice any major weaknesses or strengths that would cause much controversy. I find the lack of being able to purchase an 'inspiring' character a minor oversight. Running a lone Thunderhawk/Retinue assault is too risky IMHO unless you play CAP-A-CAP as we do, and Noise Marines are overpriced as they aren't as good as Havoks for the same cost. This depends on play style I suppose, but that's my opinion.
So all up, the EC are as good an army as most other Chaos. Iron Warriors are probably a bit tougher and fighting any tank/WE heavy force will be a struggle, but I enjoy using daemons ( though only 4 were used, once, in the above game) and the Retinues are well thought out. All up, a solid & fun list to use as a balanced(Inf/armor/Titan/air) force.
We should be doing a Salamander vs Emperor's Children refight this coming Tuesday so perhaps I can give you some more thoughts then. Sadly, tomorrow's game is cancelled due to a category 4 Cyclone (Hurricane) hitting the coast north of here.
Cheers, Britt
