Ok, so another question, how "stable" are the epic UK lists?

The EpicUK lists seem more stable, and as they have been rigorously playtested then I imagine they wont be changing anytime soon? Im asking as the netEA lists are constantly being tinkered with and updated etc.

If I collect an army from the EpicUK lists, will it be out of date in about 6 months because someone thinks that a formation needs to change ...?

The EUK lists are typically reviewed every few years or so, changes are typically of the order of points tweaks or occasionally a new unit making an appearance (storm talons and nephilims for example)

They do occasionally make more major changes like the recent krieg review but those are pretty rare (and still not very major on the grand scheme of things)

Approved netEA are lists are just as stable really, its mostly a few point and stat tweaks here and there

Make sure you're not confusing the approved vs experimental lists. The latter are by design tinkered with but eventually settle down

Yeah, by definition the lists that see the most forum traffic are being developed to subject to the most change. I haven't tried out any of the epicuk lists yet but now I've been playing longer I think I will start using them a bit more. They're basically the same but they tend to be "slimmer" so leave you needing to make harder list building/tactical choices. It's probably relevant to note that in the uk scene you get points for using a variety of different lists throughout the course of the season so a lot of time has been invested in reducing the likelihood of one list's scissors being another's stone...

The UK "Championship" system was specifically designed to promote the better players rather than the most powerfull lists. It is also worth noting that other people are less successful when playing with exactly the same lists as those who win the tournaments, showing that skill and regular games / experience are key (as in any competition environment).

Some lists are definitely more popular than others, suggesting that these are possibly slightly more powerfull, though I believe the presence or lack of models also plays a significant part in the player's choice of list. However it is also worth noting that there are definite themes in most armies (often to match the perceived 'fluff' for the particular army / list) and their interaction with the E:A game mechanics can benefit or hinder the list.

I am really unsure whether this makes one or other list 'better', not least because it is almost impossible to measure the quality of E:A lists produced by the various communities. The main question is rather whether you enjoy playing the E:A rules, and more importantly whether you enjoy playing with your opponent enough to want to repeat the experience. This "enjoyment factor" encompasses so much more than the list in question. . . . Which is why the golden rule is DWWFY :D

That hits the nail on the head for me. 30 games is going to produce a reasonably balanced list if feedback is taken into account. You can balance a list ten different ways in the end though. Making sure that your group enjoys games with and against it is what really all that matters.

I see.

When I said being "tinkered with"I was for the most part referring to all the lists in development and experimental. Not all though, Im collecting Tau at the moment, and that list, although approved is being reworked, Im not even sure why. But thats a discussion for another time. ;)

Thanks for making everything a bit clearer for me.

One last question though.....

Why cant the (epic UK) Blood angels have devastators!!!!!? :nooo

Cheers,
Steve
