Just wondering how people are basing their infantry round or rectangle?

Neither!

As Huey Lewis and his News once said: "it's hip to be square".

Rectangle, I started in 2004 and I don't like to rebase. :) Would go round if I was starting out again.

I prefer square , but the round ones are tempting. does anyone know of anywhere that you can get square bases except ebay ?

I went back and forth with my paper sprite minis between rectangular and the old-school squares, and for some reason the rectangles just look better to me. I kind of think the squares have the five minis smooshed too close together and they look like more of a mob than a formation. The Onslaught bases look like the holes might be a tad further apart, but maybe it's the perspective.

Round. But depending on the unit, I usually base between 3 to 5 models. Say, three terminators but 5 guardsmen.

And I make my own bases.

I've used the Onslaught ones for my Heresy World Eaters (mixed with 2p coins as i didn't have enough)

I really like them, nice spacing for 4-5 minis.

Although that said I've been using 1p pieces for the majority of my 2-3 mini infantry units/single robots/dreads etc. my reasons;

Cheap! (works out about 1p :) )
Shiny ones are magnetic, which can be handy.
Size - almost identical to the old squares so work well on buildings etc.
Nice weight to them, they sit well on sloped terrain and if i drop them, they tend to land base down.

only cons are the time spent trying to make the bases flush using sand/pva etc and painting sometimes requires a few coats.

Note those are actually TMG bases. We sold them a batch.

I use a mix from various sources, mostly both square and rectangle from GW ...

Both, whichever I think looks and feels better for them.

15x40mm rectangles for my marines to give them space to spread out and have detail on their bases.
10x40mm for my Krieg, to fit in trenches and have a tightly packed horde feel.
20mm round for my tyranids, for the horde feel and to get two in contact with 40mm wide based targets.

I've seen hexagons, triangles, coffin shapes and more used for epic bases. So long as you stay within the minimum and maximum size limits the world's your oyster. I'm thinking of getting some oval shapes made and buy my bases from Fenris Games too; 1.5mm high laser cut ply.

I just used some of the TMG round bases you've got above on my Iron Warriors (see my hobby thread in sig for close ups) because I had them laying around. I found they worked pretty great once I trial slotted the figures in, far more I expected actualy. I'm with GlynG above in that I like my armies based sightly different to give them some additional distinctiveness.

Currently I have some on strips (guard and marines) and some on squares (Orks) but I've been trying for months (with no success) to get a reply out of Litko for some custom bases.

I think it might be time to try some TMG and Fenris Games bases. Do Fenris do custom shapes with (or without) holes? And if so, can someone point me to where I can ask them with details? Just a straight email, webform or...?
