A quick and bloody game in the legendary Basement of Coach. An early snow storm canned an impromptu meeting of the Adeptus Ineptus at our FLGS. I toughed it out though to this bunker of a hobby room as I was heading home for Thanksgiving anyway.

The Retinue doubles up and lays a BM on the Lancers - Turn 3

So Black Legion won it in the third with T&H and Blitz.

The Knights got slammed early on with some bad saves, failed activations and loss of the Baron to the SC. They nearly pulled out a turn 4, but failed that too.

Do you think the knights couldn't push back against the chaos forces? They seemed pretty static - understandable given Chaos were right in front of them. But surely in that situation you would think you have the ability to take them out? Firepower would be on sustain, aassaults possible with assault units etc. Or can they not handle the enemy up close if it is an assault force?

They can handle assault forces, check out some of the other reports. The failed activations and saves turn 1 were above average and knee capped the army for the game.

It is a carpet, not sure what the color was before the paint. I think Coach got it from a crime scene diorama from a court house that was just going to chuck it.

This game kind of reminds me of the beat down Coach gave Karl and me. We played a 6k game, my Knights and Karl's Steel Legion against Coach's Chaos Marines. 1st activation of the game, Coach's Cruiser killed my Baron. It was an omen for the outcome.

Cool report and tough game for the knights!

In the earlier assaults, I presume the castellans moved up to lend supporting fire before the errants failed to activate?

Shame they got caught within 5cm of the errants to allow intermingling. Did the errants counterchange when assaulted to make use of their powerfists?

Also, what was the plan for the Lancers? Any thought to spreading them out in front as a scout screen IOT provide the castellans etc some room to breath?

Yes and yes, half were in BtB, the rest were restricted by terrain. I chose to regroup and leave them intermingled as otherwise I think both would have been broken or destroyed by the end of the turn. Moving the Errants would have seen them with 5ish BM and the Castellans able to be assaulted in a way that they would have gotten minimal support fire.

Lancers were deployed like that to counter the Terminators after they came in and ate something. Spreading them out as a screen would have seen them clipped and broken most likely. Fine if we're talking about a 150 Rough Rider formation, but not something I'm keen on with a BTS.
