TURN 1
Tau Wins initiative

T: Stealthsuits Hold and fire at Cadian sentinels killing one.
C: 2 Bombards fire at stealthsuits (4 hits, 1 kill) Breaking the unit
T: Firewarriors in transports Double move up against the Cadian Sentinels killing 2 and breaking them.
C: Shadowsword move and fire against Hammerheads (railguns) between the houses killing one.
T: Hammerheads (fusion) uses supreme commander and moves and fires at the Sentinels killing all four after they had fired back in OW and placed a BM
C: Stormlord and Inf. double moves up to the Stealthsuits killing all but 2 due to them being broken.
T: Tigersharks stands down.
C: Ordinatus double move and fire at the Hammerheads (fusion) killing 4 even when they had cover. Breaking them.
T: Firewarriors double moves against the Ordinatus lowering 3 shields.
C: Shadowsword dounle move against the same Hammerheads as the other Shadowsword killing another and breaking the unit.
T: Baracuda attacks the Leviathan. Whiteshields fire AA bur the Baracudas manages to get 3 hits on the Leviathan lowering 2 shields and causing a wound…
C: Leviathan Holds even with the supreme commander onboard and moves forward…
T: Suits march forwards and gets into position for turn 2
T: Suits (BTS) march forwards and gets into position for turn 2
End of turn 1. Hammerhead (fusion) fails to rally.
Stealthsuits teleport in with 1 BM

TURN 2
Tau wins initiative

T: Coordinated fire with Suits (BTS) and Firewarriors against the Leviathan. Firewarriors and Suits move and fire. (Whiteshields fire from OW but the Tau saves all hits.) Tau causes 4 hits on the Leviathan destroying one shield and causing one wound.
T: Retain. Suits double moves up close to the Leviathan and shoots at it with no effect. 1BM
C: Leviathan Holds again. (The Supreme Commander is obviously not onboard) Fires at the Suits (BTS) killing one drone…
T: Firewarriors with transport moves and fires at the Stormsword Inf. Getting 11 hits, killing 5 guardsmen and wounding the Stormsword. 9BM
C: A single Bombard fires at Stealthsuits, breaking the unit.
C: Retain. Ordinatus move and fires at the Firewarriors. 1BM
T: Hammerheads (Railgun) Moves and fires at the Leviathan 3 hits 1 wound.
C: Shadowsword shoots the Firewarriors killing one transport
T: Tigershark attack the Leviathan and unloads some drones nearby. 1BM
C: Stormsword Inf. Holds and removes all blastmarkers but 4.
T: Baracuda attacka the Leviathan. 1BM
C: Cadian Sentinels Holds and removes blastmarkers.
T: Stealthsuits engage the Leviathan with massive support after some help of the Supreme Commander. Kasrkin jump out from the warmachine to defend. Not sure we did this right but the Leviathan made a Counter Charge (5cm) and then unloaded the infantry within 5cm, making the total range 10cm thus getting some units in CC. The only chance for survival was if the Leviathan manged to kill all Stealthsuits before supporting fire began. Stealthsuits causing 0 hits and the Karskin and Leviathan manages to get 5 hits + 3 MW hits but then the Stealthsuits saves 4 hits and survives with 2 units. Supporting fire with 10 suits, 5 firewarriors and 7 drones kills all the Guardsmen and the Leviathan.
C: Shadowsword continues to shoot at the Hammerheads killing one more and breaking the formation.
T: Gundrones move and shoot at the Whiteshields killing 1 (3BM)

End of turn 2. AA fire shoots down a Tau fighter. Stealthsuits, Hammerhead (railgun) fails to rout. Suits (BTS) and Firewarriors fail to rally. All other succeed.

TURN 3
Tau wins initiative again

T: Coordinated fire with Suits (BTS) + Firewarriors + Gundrones breaking the Whiteshields and hunting down some broken ones with the gundrones.
T: Retain. Firewarriors with transports moves and fires at the Stormsword Inf. Kills 2
C: Ordinatus moves and fires at the Suits (BTS) hitting and killing 2
C: Retains with Bombards and Holds but fires at the Suits killing one suit and a skyray.
T: Suits double move and shoots at shadowsword causing 1 wound
C: Stormlors Inf. Engage firewarriors with transport. Due to some lucky dice in the resolution all firewarriors is hacked down.
T: Tigersharks attack the Shadowsword placing a BM and breaking it.
C: Shadowsword fires at the Suits (BTS) killing one and breaking it.
T: Baracuda attacks the cadian sentinels = 1BM
C: Sentinels fire at the Stealthsuit killing it with BM
T: Stealthsuits uses the Supreme Commander and triple moves towards the blitz
T: Hammeheads fires at the Shadowsword causing 1 wound.
End of turn 3, the battle is lost

BTW the Tau list has 2 BTS formations (crisis and FW). Not that it made a difference.

Yes you did this correctly. Units may dismount after any move and this includes performing a countercharge or withdrawal. In the same vein, troops may mount up after consolidation (though this has implications to the transport).

I think my list was way to static and slow but the matchup against Tau will always be hard I guess...

Thanks for the support! There was a grumpy Tau player disagreeing who had placed all his soldiers 6cm away :)
We had some more thoughts on this: Can you unload the infantry in "normal" fashion or does it have to be towards nearest opponent as per the Counter Charge? Also is the infantry running out from the WE or magically placed within 5cm(could you end up on another side of a base...) You need 8 units to prevent the infantry from unloading if I get it right but the model itself can be surrounded with fewer bases.

Countercharges Must move towards the nearest enemy. This is also true when disembarking under these circumstances. Once the nearest enemy unit is reached and his ZoC is removed, then repeat for the next nearest unit etc.

The definition of disembarking 'within 5cm' probably ought to be discussed beforehand as people play it differently, and anyway, the larger the transport, the more edges that can be used. Personally I tend to pre-measure the entire countercharge and FF range including disembarkation before any movement. Doing this is makes it so much easier to identify those counter-chargers that will be in / out of FF. Then the relevant units can be placed accordingly. Note, sometimes this means that some of your units cannot be put into B-B and may not even get into range notwithstanding the pre-measurement, so choose the order of counter-charges carefully.

A 4DC transport needs 8x enemy units in B-B to 'lock' the transported infantry inside. Note, it may choose to barge enemy units but may also elect to stop at any point after contacting the 1st enemy unit (to avoid hitting 8x enemy).

The rules state that you may not move 'over' enemy figures, but where large numbers of enemy are in B-B with the transport while failing to 'lock' in the contents, we usually allow the disembarking troops to be put into B-B with these units by 'appearing' on the far side of them (space permitting of course). In this, there may be a bit of friendly 'shuffling' to get the best representation
(Basically play the 'spirit of the rules' under these circumstances. This approach also speeds up the game significantly, which is an imperative when time is limited)
