Thanks for the report!! THAT is what I call an Epic battle! The marine side seemed to have very little infantry and most of what they had was composed of Devastators and Terminators.

So you think a 10x6 or a 12x6 table would be too big?

Quote (iblisdrax @ 25 2004 Feb.,10:10) | So you think a 10x6 or a 12x6 table would be too big? | Not for multiple players on either side. You also need to have big enough amries to make to worthwhile, otherwise you waste most of the area, or troops roam around not finding any targets all game.
Then there is the fact that you will always want to put units right in the middle of the table; and it can be quite a stretch!
I have played lengthways down a 6'x20' using 28mm figs (using STARGRUNT 2 rules) with 6 players per side plus Supreme Commander Players (and 2 Umpires!). Players essnetially paired off against one another, calling only for others a\s their forces interacted. Turn sequences were also aligned to accomodate the various housekeeping and rules sequences. Difficult, but well worth the effort.

my .02,
iblisdrax | Hi iblisdrax, on that size table with the standard tournament rules I think that troops with a move of 15cm would be penalised too much, 12ft is too far to walk in 4 turns. Ideally troops should have to go no further than about 6-7' from their starting position to get anywhere on the table. If they can't reach some areas of the table during the game then they start to become less viable as choices in army selection. But like I say, increasing deployment zones, or adding turns, could solve this problem. 8'x6' is a pretty big table mind you... I think it would be fine for games up to about 20k a side.

The Foot sluggers of an IG company arent going to get far compared to the SMs in their rhinos. However, this is exactly the situation you need for those big flanking manouvres, armour clashes and the like. Plus the use of aerial deployment means a unit can be well dug in before anybody comes near. Unist crawlign along also have much longer getting pounded by indirect fire weapons and will be lucky to get there at all.
Its not soemthing you have time or room for frequently, but can be very, very good for special scenarios and demo games.

You're correct Tas, that's why we use about a 5x6 foot table. And we try to get our forces mounted in some form or another. Like allowing Tanks to carry one stand. Just like I've seen in the real world and on the History Channel ... That being said, not all missions require all troops to be mounted, especially in the defense.
