Hi Blind,
thanks for the interest.

The printer uses uv-curing resin.
The visibility of the striations depends on the resolution. The printer can only print small objects using the highest resolution. So you will have to divide a big object into segments - which causes it's on set of problems - or live with a lower resolution.
Striations aren't all bad, because they can be used to give a surface texture. If your mind is willing to accept that you are looking at a texture and not at a by product of the printing process, you're save.
Nonetheless what we only to often forget is that minor defects are not visible on playing distance. Something looking perfect on the table may look real bad when under close scrutiny.
On the image you can see some pieces with warped bottom lines, one of the problems I had to learn to overcome. When you're looking for them you see them and might find them annoying or not. When you just look at the fortress on a gaming table, you will most likely not notice them.

If you are looking for somebody to print models for you, try Shapeways or one of the other printing services.
My printer runs 20 hours a day for my own stuff.

Even if I had capacity available what advantage would you expect to gain from having it printed by me ?
Quality ? Shapeways has better machines and machines which are less demanding regarding the design (i.e. overhangs).
Price ? I could never match the price Shapeways is asking. It's not only printing time, but also logistics and checking and probably changing your designs, so that they print. The price must also cover misprints, warranty (read unsatisfied customers) and hidden costs, that I now tend to ignore.
Speed ? The machine needs between 1 and 3 hours per vertical cm. Vertical relative to machine not model. Width and Depth do not influence print time directly. But designs with many dense object might need longer settle timed. The middle part of the building prints for 16 hours. If I had 10 jobs like those the last one would have to wait at least 10 days plus shipping and only if no misprint occurs.

Didn't I write something like that before ?

To make it short
I do not print for other people - I have neither the time, nor the resources nor could I do it for an competitive price.

I honestly didn't care about the pricing the reason why i asked is because your print's look better then FUD to me so I thought i'd just ask. You print stuff only for you, thats no problem, your stuff looks awesome!

You imply that these models are available on shapeways, but they are not. You have not offered to make even the files available for those of us who would be interested in printing these ourselves, and then you give a curt reply to our friend here who asked an innocent question. Quite a few people on this site would be interested in being able to print these on their own and are wondering why you are reluctant to share.

You're certainly not at all obligated to, but, considering that numerous people have expressed interest, it would be awfully nice of you to contribute to the community. I don't think anyone is in competition or would be looking to exploit the designs for commercial purposes.

I don't think that looking for a better price is damnable or scurrilous.
I tried to think without prejudice about what people hope to get when they ask me about doing prints ( I assumed of their own design) for them and evaluate wether I could fulfill that hope.
I doubt that the quality of my prints is noticeably better than ultra frost. My stuff might look better, because it painted and because it is a photograph and often enough not a close up. If you hold it in your hand and tilt it, so the light catches in the wrong places you might revise your judgment - or not I do not really know - I should make a comparison one of these days.

I did not imply that they are on shapeways. Blind asked about printing for others, which I interpreted as doing prints designed by others - especially as I have received questions about doing so. And if you read my answer, you will see that I answered accordingly, i.e. taking into account problems with designs, which wouldn't apply to already "working" designs.

No I did not offer to make the files available and I will not.
The designs are simple and straight forward, you could be half way through the design of a wall piece in the time you spent to formulate your post.
I did offer to evaluate to put them on shapeways, and did so. This rose the usual shit storm of "how can you make that so expensive". I choose to ignore the demand to spent more time and money on the design, so anybody else gets it cheaper and shut down that project.
A friend of mine is making forms to cast them in ceramic, but there seems to be no real interest (people demanding resign seemingly), so I'll probably have to stop him, before he wastes too much time and money.

Regarding the curtness of the answer, I think this is a media, culture and language problem.
I'm German and that is the way I would have spoken to anybody in our Club. Probably with a smile or a sigh here and there and obviously in German not in English, but it would have been a very close literal translation.
Somebody asks me for something and I tell him (in this case) I will not do it and provide the reasons why I will not do it and possible solutions, so he still might get what he is looking for.
If the style is offensive, I do apologize it was not intended - it wouldn't have caused any discern here.
Some might be even surprised that I bother to explain why I will not do it.
But in this case it makes sense (not only as a courtesy) as I get these questions once a day. So I hope when I explain why I do not do it, people will not ask anymore and can deduct from the answers that rephrasing the question in a different way, will not change the answer.
As nobody reads all the old posts, it doesn't hurt to repeat that I will not sell any of those parts or print stuff for others regardless of who designs the model, once in a while.

Giving back the community ?
The community gets from me an Website, with images,
information,
rules,
Paper buildings
an Army Generator
inspiration seemingly.

What did you give back lately ?

I could have designed some point defenses in the time I wrote that.

Everybody count to 10! :)

Brum is right though.. 3d modelling is not that hard. You can make basic stuff in minutes..so try yourselves

Ok, we get it. You're not willing to share. I've no time, interest, or inclination to learn 3D modelling.

As far as what I've contributed, well, I only single-handedly recruited 12 new Epic players in Los Angeles (some of whom contribute and *share* their 3D modelling skills), organized a league that provides valuable list feedback, write batreps, etc. etc. In short, I've put a whole new geographic location of Epic players on the map and injected some new blood to this forum. Perhaps that isn't valuable. I don't know.

But I'm honestly not interested in getting into a pissing match with you. I get the message loud and clear that you're not willing to share the files so I guess I will either continue to wistfully admire your creations from afar, or simply not view this thread going forward. I still don't understand why you aren't willing to share the files, but, that is your decision and your right.

Fortress looks great, the volume of stuff you are doing is very impressive.

Looks like the side-discussion above has resolved itself (hint hint), let's keep this about 6mm minis and new tech :)

Nah. Nothing to see here. I'm done. I think I only said what everyone is thinking, but it's clear he doesn't want to share the files. No drama here.

Hi

I have seen the fortress (the 3D printed and the casted version) yesterday in real and it looks great. Our friend did a good job casting the walls. Maybe we will see some pictures soon.
greetings from Berlin,
Duke

dude, what exactly is your problem? You heard the man, he said one can make his designs in about the time it takes to write a long post, and since you seem to have several friends that have and share 3D skills (as you yourself said), show them the pics and have them make it...

Dude, what exactly is your problem? I said the issue was done and there was no drama. You can screw right off with that attitude.

then don't go around stating you think you are saying what everyone is thinking. You are not. I find brumbaers efforts in sharing his experiences with 3D printing much more valuable than any kind of files.

Stop.

I will be deleting further hostile comments in this thread, in addition to some of the unneeded ones above.

Both parties have said an end piece, it's done. Enjoy the pictures and content or move along. [/mod voice]

Please get back on topic everybody! :)

@brumbaer: really love what you're doing. Your stuff really inspires me to keep on going. Now we just patiently have to await the day stuff can be mass produced through 3d printing...

really like the bastions, you did a great job on them, would be great to play a game based on the old horus heresy board game board with bastions dotted about.

I also realize the value in having unique rather than mass produced items, it makes your collection all the better for having one of a kind items. just because something can be shared does not mean it has to be shared. I suppose it's the age we live in that people have a sense of entitlement regarding digital work.

keep up the great modelling!
