I almost certainly won't make Counterattack in Bristol, but was looking at the others. Are Roll Call, Challenge and Expo all two day events... the 2014 Schedule also lists them as 3k events? Not sure I can negotiate four full weekends away.
My little review
Game 1 Vs Steve (Marines) Lost 2-0 Turn 3
After a fairly unspectacular orbital bombardment from Steve (he still hit something though, guided by his witch-like powers no doubt), I launched a bold air-assault with a spirit host against a warhound on the far flank... and knocked down a single shield. It was then that I made a major mistake and threw my storm serpent at his army - throwing more activations at a failed plan is not a good idea - it was killed, and the cobra was picked off without ever firing a shot. It wasn't looking too terrible until another stupid mistake in turn three, when I should have sent my phantom to Steve's blitz, but again sent it after a another failed plan. Steve claimed defend to flag and broke everything in his half... needed the phantom to rally to force a fourth turn, it didn't, giving Steve they shall not pass.
Game 2 Vs Kev (Marines) Lost 2-1 Turn 4
More marines, but this time with a lander. Turn one went really well for the Eldar, until a squad of four assault marines inflicted 3 wounds on my phantom. Kev's BTS of terminators with landraiders in a lander pounced on the phantom and killed it. I then three over a third of my army at that BTS but failed to kill it - I did manage to get my Spirit Troupe (that's the six wraithlords) out of the storm serpent and into base-to-base with the terminators, so that was fun. In fact, I managed to deploy three formations out of the storm serpent, being paired with a cobra meant it was easier to push it forward and keep it alive (that one AA6 on the cobra is a surprising anti-air deterrent as well). On turn three, Kev failed to bring the lander (and surviving three terminators with two landraiders) on - the cobra AA blast marker at work. Turn three had another blow for the eldar when the avatar assaulted some scouts and with one shot was criticalled putting a BM on every (yes, every) formation on the table). A gambit for Kev's blitz in turn four came up 3cm short... but the lander and BTS got my blitz (Kev on two goals), I could only manage take and hold to reduce the loss.
Game 3 Vs Tom C (IG) Win 4-0 Turn 3
Tom had two tank companies, so a lot of points in a few powerful but slow formations. Unfortunately, he never managed to get them working together - starting slightly too far apart. The eldar then cheated with their double retain to wipe out a infantry company in ruins (cobra ignore cover was a star here), bring a spirit host out of a web way to soften a tank company and then bring the spirit toupe out of the storm serpent to assault the tanks. The IG Mech HQ had been crippled by an air assault. Turn three involved consolidation moves from the eldar, and the Tom didn't have enough left... the BTS tank company could only deal with one formation, but was out of position. With a sneaky rangers shot against some sentinels (no saves allowed due to sniper) I managed to claim defend to flag and they shall not pass on top of the blitz and take and hold.
A very enjoyable day - if not damn cold, thermals will be bought next time. I think the phantom is made of paper... or I can't make 3+ saves often enough, but I really like the cobra and storm serpent duo. Plus, spirit troupes are cool.
