Crimson's analysis is pretty much on target.

Overall, I prefer the gunz.  They are better in assaults and more durable in practice.  They are rarely all engaged in CC (I've never actually seen it happen), so their assault offense is pretty much always better.  They are usually in cover so they get armor saves, even against assaults.  They are also cheaper in Big and Uge formations than stompas are.

Believe it or not, a horde of gunz double-moving across the board can rack up some significant kill numbers and threaten a pretty stout assault unless your opponent diverts significant firepower to stopping them.

The only thing stompas surpass them on is the MobUp bonuses.  Gunz don't count as units to gain the bonuses, but they can have Nobz which help remove more BMs.  It doesn't make up for it entirely, but it helps enough that I think the gunz are better.

Incidentally, all that goes double for adding to a warband (except price, obviously).  MobUp becomes a non-issue, and no one will ever get in base contact with the gunz as long as there are boyz around them.

My personal opinion is that stompas should be ~65 points and supastompas should be ~300.  Luckily, a stompamob + supastompa is pretty close to that in cost anyway, so it's not like it can be abused.

Have those rules been taken out of the last revision? ?Because in my rulebook, it skips from 6.1.4 to 6.1.6. ?

6.1.5 is there in my book. Maybe you're not looking in the right place? Page 125, the paragraph under the skull icon.

Small point, doesn't the super-stompa suffer from a case of "sentinal syndrome"?

It's vulnerable to titankiller weapons and can't benefit from the projection of its formation. Battlefortresses suffer worse from this, but there can be more than one in a formation, thus spreading the hits.

Yes its vulnerable to TK weapons, but compared to other 250 point warengines its alot tougher.

eg compared to a warhound titan.

The warhound has 3DC, 5+ reinforced armour and 2 void sheilds. Thats takes an average of 8.6 hits to kill in one go (w/o giving it a chance to repair shields)

The supa-stompa has 4DC, 4+ reinforced armour and D3 shields (average of 2). That takes an average of 18 hits to kill.

On top of that supa stompa has better fire power too. And with a mega chopper it is quite nasty in CC for its points cost.

Thats why it is supposed to be kinda rare.  Athough I think that every Ork player that can get ahold of one, will have one.  And I don't blame them.  I'm just glad the Orky player in my group hasn't figured out how to build/proxy one yet. :D

Yeah I wouldn't take more than 1 per army. So the packs they come in are kind of annoying (3 stompas and 1 supa stompa in a blister pack  }:)  ). Since I plan to have lots of stompas and only 1 supa-stompa, I guess i'll be selling lots of supa-stompas on ebay :p

Hello there. This is my first post here. I was thinking of adding a Rough Rider formation to my IG army but I do not like the horse minis. I was thinking of using Salamander scout tanks since I already have them. They were given to me by a friend and there are six tanks. This is the same amount as the RR formation. What I am asking is if anyone sees any problem or complication in using Salamander tanks in a "counts as" proxy for Rough Riders. Many thanks in advance.

no problem at all, you would need to inform your opponent when you play, but shouldn't be a problem

The only smallish problem is that ytou should base them in the same size. As long as you do that, there is unlikely to be any poblems. Tell your opponment in advance in any case :)

Other proxies, more suitable to prevent confusions is searching for 6mm motorbike miniatures. DOn't know if they exist, but a motorbike formation can look really cool on the battlefield. Maybe using ork bikes with IG riders?

BTW: welcome on board :D

Health and sixes,

Xavi

Nice Sturmtiger R/F ! ?I agree ... if your gaming crew agrees, then go for it ! ?But I feel the stats for R/R (guys on horses) vs. AFVs should be modified to reflect that. ?Horse flesh vs. heavy metal ! ?The stats are different. But if you are just talking filling a slot that normally should be R/R with Sallies, fine ... but the stats shouldn't be the same ... ???

Welcome Rabidfox,

I use the old IG bikes for my RR units. I love the look of the old model combined with the visual of the line of bikes. Further, there is not chance the person I am playing would mix them up for anything else.

I see you point, and I am not a huge fan of the Rough Rider minis either. However, I wouldnt necessarily use Salamaders, because they already have stats in the game, and are the different size. I would look around for other cavalry from other makers, or see if you can find bikers. How about Marine bikers with the riders replaced? Or converted Sentinels? Special dreadnoughts?
