Got my Avians. I am a very happy camper now. Thanks deacon.
Also wanted to comment, you have said all along how your goal is to eventually come out with your own rules set to use your figs with, and you obviously have at least some of a universe and background worked out for your figs. It would be kinda cool if you could put up on your website (and here) a brief overview of that background and the various armies you envision for it, or at least the ones you have miniatures for already. I know, I'm curious about it.
Just a thought.
I know I've said this before, so I'll say it one more time and then pipe down.
I think you should contact Jon Tuffley at Ground Zero Games, and then license the Dirtside system. It's a great system, freely available on the web as a PDF. I suspect the cost would be nominal. Then write up (or do it as a fan project like NetEA) a supplement that includes stats and special rules unique to your setting. Then, write a fluff book that combines the community rules and your world's background. Hell, even hire a freelancer to write the book to your specs.
Special bonus: contact Litko and get them to release a box set of tokens to replace the cardboard chits that came with the book. I'd be very surprised if they haven't already done this for a fan and have the file all done.
It also means that once it's published, the core rules are supported by someone else (and are by this point pretty much bullet-proof anyway), the community rules support themselves, and so your only worry is the setting and the minis. As a small business, you really need to be aggressive about sticking to the stuff you do best (like creating awesome new minis). Rather than getting bogged down in developing and supporting a rule set, this means you get great rules that largely support themselves. Working with similarly sized companies run by good people who are enthusiastic gamers is a good way to accomplish this.
Hi!
I heartily second Wellspring's recommendation.
DSII is my favorite non-GW system for 6mm gaming.
I wrote the original DSII conversions for epic 15 years ago, they're still around the internet today (I also have it).
The DSII system has a FMA mod (to use dice instead of chits, FMA stands for full metal anorak) and Steve Gibson came up with a mod for infantry (which I expanded).
The system will save you having to provide (or make arrangements for) chits and the dice system is so much better anyway.
I'm a little rusty, but I can do a review and I am sure I can regain my expertise with the system. I could stat it all up for you and add custom systems as well (I did the same for the epic conversions).
It's a solid proven system.
