Hi there!

I was searching in the tourney pack for the answer but perhaps I missed it.
The question came from a training match with new folks (fresh meat is always needed).

MW hits are allowed to be allocated upon both infantry and vehicles, but is it forced to do so?
In other words, can it work as an AP/AT weapon related to hit allocations?
Ofc same goes with TK weapon aswell.

MW weapons don't have a type, you can specify out of/in cover, or WE/non-WE but that's it. After that, they are allocated closest to furthest to any unit (INF or AV) in the category you declared.

This is just for weapons with a MW firepower value (or even MW hits in assault). There are a few exceptions that do things a bit differently. The Tank Destroyer from the Minervan list for example. That has an AT shot with a MW in it's special abilities. Hits from that would go solely on AVs.

Woah, Taccom is faster than Google. ;) Thank you for the extreme quick reply.

Then MW cannot snipe out vehicles in a mixed formation like a mech. inf. co., unless the player forms them up maladjusted. It is good to know as my SM opponents love bringing in Warhounds.

It can if all the INF are in cover and the AVs aren't. Just declare that you're not taking the to-hit modifier and your hits go on everything out of cover (the Chimera).

A theoretical MW with sniper ability would but other than that, no.

Doesn't the EpicUK have that ability on the Leman Russ Destroyer laser destroyer (and then I'm not even sure that's actually MW)?

Not sure on the EpicUK list, but ya a MW sniper could go on anything in LoS and range (assuming you took the cover modifier to hit the thing if it was in cover).

Personally I'd love to add it to Shadowswords. Not that it would change gameplay at all (you target WE with that, not vehicles). I'd just love to sit back and watch the shitstorm that it would generate on the boards >:D

The EUK tank destroyer has AT2+ with sniper, so you can target specific vehicles and they take a save penalty

The sniper ability is another story, just as LoS, no LoS ping-pong.
The question came up thinking on AP/AT weapons... like an autocannon or multilaser and stuff.
These weapons can actually choose their target (not individually as a sniper ofc), be it infantry or vehicle.
While MW can also attack both type of enemy, yet it cannot choose which type to attack, despite it would be more useful for the attacker as usually the vehicles are more armored than infantry... usually.

I don't wish to change these rules (I left over more funny ideas in other topics :P ) I was just simply curious about it.

yeah we house rule that MW can declare a "type" and then it can only effect that. Similar to the whole in cover / no cover declarations. Basically I feel your pain CH.

most of the time though, the cover save is very worthwhile to infantry so shooting at a mixed formation, the infantry are typically hugging the vehicles for cover.... I'm surprised at how rarely it comes up in my games!
