You need to do it in the user specific config file that gets dropped in My Documents/My Games/darkplaces... That tripped me up for a while.

If that's what you're already doing then I'm not sure...

Thanks, zombo. :) I've been busy as hell these past few days.

PS: to put my busyness in perspective - I wrote this post on Monday. :p

I'm thinking of giving this a try to get to play more games of epic.

Is this a game were you actually have to sit and play at the same time with your opponent, like for three hours in a row for instance if your playing a game of epic. Or can you play a player at a time and then wait for a few hours untill you're opponent have done their next moves. Playing a game over a few days, keeping in contact through mail or similar.

Having a wife and three kids makes finding three hours in a row a hard thing. But a few minutes here and there is a lot easier.

Either is possible, though the longer time period would either require the server to be kept running by the host, or,it's of saving and loading gamestates

I'm playing a game of Tabletop with Warpeace :) We've only got as far as finishing deploying our armies so far, but will be playing tomorrow evening or over a few nights.

We've got up to the end of turn 1 and I've posted a battle report - viewtopic.php?f=84&t=25791

Overall the system seems good, but it could definitely be improved. I'm keen to play and use it a lot. It's great that you can save games and come back to them to gradually play game(s) over time as opponents are free (does the game allow multiple games to be saved to play more than person? I haven't tried).

Being able to select and move multiple units at once is probably the biggest priority.
Coded limits for movement like was discussed before would be good too.
At normal zoom levels characters aren't distinguishable from regular infantry. It would help if they were more obviously distinguishable in some way – perhaps characters / leader units could have different coloured bases for easier recognition?
It would be very useful to have a thin line running across the table, marking the two halves.
Being able to mark the deployment zone would be good too. Perhaps the game would allow for a terrain piece the size of the battlefield which is see through and semi-translucent in both deployment zones in the appropriate areas which could be overlaid onto the battlefield temporarily duing deployment then removed afterwards? There could be a version for regular edge deployment and two variants for corner deployments.
Terrain-wise hills, roads, rivers / lakes (the latter could be a splodge of water you could lay down multiple times in an area to make a particular lake shape) would all be good in time.
Could we get templates for barrages and orbital bombardment please?

What's the maximum number of units a particular army can have? Seperate Black versions of all IG units for Commissars would be good and at least most if not all of the SM unit plus character combinations, depending how many there's space for.

My IF models have most of the characters added. I just need to send them to zombocom so he can tell me what's gone horribly wrong. :P

It's a bit fiddly but I got it working to deploy a unit of Eldar Banshees :)

I'm tempted to do the Exarches and Farseers bases in a different colour to aid recognition. Unless you're planning to implement a more general fix to help character stand recognition Zombo?

It occurs to me that a new 'army' could also be created of the templates for the game.

I think this has huge potential. Especially with alot of the Epic players spread out. Does this system have a "play by email" type arrangement where you can play people in different time zones - ie they make their moves, and you can come back to it and view them at a later date then make your move?

One of the guys that works for me does this with a Chess simulator he uses.

It might be possible, but if playing say one go each every day a game might take 2-4 months to play which is pretty slow

One player's computer hosts the game too and that computer has to be on and logged in to the game for the other person to play. This seems wasteful in terms of electricity, unless for some reason the host has a computer on at all times anyway.

I've got half a dozen Biel-tan Eldar units working now and part way there with a similar number. It's going to tak me a fair while to do them all but I reckon I'll do it. I'm tempted to do Dark Eldar afterwards too. I'll probably do Feral Orks next as they only have 15 or so units, compared to the 50 or more Eldar ones.

If people are OK with that issue, I can make template bases in other shapes when I get back.

Please could you do this soon?

I'm hoping to complete files for a Feral Orks army over the next few days (got Steam Gargants plus Squiggoths and Orkeosauruses with and without warboss and/or weirdboy done so far). I want the infantry on strip bases not round. I'll put up with negligible measuring effects.

I'd like at least 12 x 40 and 20 x 40 for a start please.

It's a bank holiday weekend, so hopefully I can get a day of Tabletop work in, no worries. Alas I'm unlikely to get any time to do so until the weekend though.

Goodo :) Thanks for getting back to me and keeping on developing it (it makes all the time fiddling around with paint shop pro for the armies worth it).

I've got 19 out of the 26 Feral Orks unit sprites done now, so making good progress on that. If you can get me the new rectangular base files over the long weekend I'll get the Feral Ork army finished up and with you for everyone to use.

Since there's a fair amount of cross-over I'll probably take on the Ork and Speed Freaks armies too, though I fancy doing Eldar and Dark Eldar first. If anyone has a particular army you'd like to play with let me know.

The game with Warpeace is still ongoing too, he's just being a bit unwell so we haven't played further yet.

I just have another thought - flags are a bit boring and uninspiring for objectives, but army specific objectives could always be designed and includes as 'units' to select in a new army.
