Hi guys.
I've a question for you. I've see that in some tournament, like the Onyx competition, there is no limit to the amount of point for war engines. Here some example of list without the 1/3 limit:

Is this legit?

Any TO can set the rules to be whatever they like. The lists are designed for use with the GT scenario but nothing to stop you doing whatever you like at an event you run.

It's the same for everyone and you know what your up against when you enter I guess.

Those are also variant lists which ignore that general rule

So, with the 1/3 limit we have standard battle, with a lots of troops.

Without, we accept to have Mechwarriors battle. Cool

Yeah,
and the 1/3 rule isn't a universal rule for the game, but almost all armylist use that limit, which gives the impression of a universal rule. But basically it comes down to which armylist you play how many WE you can take.

Yeah, pretty well all those photos are not of regular forces with the force-specific 1/3 restriction lifted but instead use lists designed to represent Titan Legions etc.

or rather:
there are lists which have different restrictions.
some of those lists use the allies in a different way (my Tanith list, and i believe the Ministorum list have different restrictions to the 1/3rd rules)
other lists have items that would in most lists be within the 1/3rd section, in the main sections.
(those lists are generally "titan" lists, being ones such the Titan Legion, Gargant Bigmob, Eldar Titan Clan, and my own Rusulka Tyranid Biotitan lists)

a Tourney organiser can make up whatever rules they want (as can anyone else in friendly games, so long as everyone involved agrees to them) but in most cases that is usually just saying which lists can and cannot be taken.

those armies above are all from various Titan lists, which have very limited access to smaller and cheaper formations.
So yes, there's rarely an army that is half titans half infantry, it's usually "almost all of one, and a bit of the other"
It's not so much that if you ignore the 1/3rd rule, everyone will only take titans all the time. I know people who hate titans and never take them

Onyx's tournament has the normal limits for particular armies.

There's a Titan Legion army there and the Eldar and Ork equivalents. Lists for these 3 armies can be found in the Compendium]. Titans are expensive and will have less activations and flexibility than other armies. The Imperial Titan Legions list has been tested a lot and should be balanced with other armies, the ork and eldar versions haven't been tested as much and may be less so, I'm not personally familiar with them.

My shifting projects

All the lists used at my events have at least been playtested by the NetEA community before inclusion (except the EpicUK Nid list but that's seen plenty of playtesting as well).

As mentioned previously, the lists used in the photos above are the AMTL, Gargant Big Mob and the Fir Iolarion Eldar Titan Clan List.
