Trying to commit myself to building a 'nid army piecemeal over the course of many many months and picking up what I can whenever the opportunity arises.. I've been looking at the lists and trying to theory-hammer a semi-decent 3k build and not getting very far.

I haven't seen many of the old metals used in other peoples armies (i.e. malefactor, haruspex, exocrine, etc.) - is this purely down to the models lack of availability and lack of decent substitutes?

Anyway, some quick questions...

Zoanthropes, I'm guessing they're next to useless? Being LV, I figured they're going to need either a bunch of infantry in a brute swarm to make sure they don't just get plastered by AP weaponry and likewise, going to need a lot of AV in an assault swarm to make sure they don't just get plastered by AT weaponry... right?

What are the best AA options for 'nids if zoanthropes require excess points spending to be made useful (and with AA 6+, not even that useful)

Also, I'm also going to assume that spore mine clusters are very situational too when used as AA with only a 15cm range? worth keeping a bunch of them to shield more important units or not? Assuming they can garrison, then I could see it being handy to swamp a few objectives from the start but not useful for much else beyond screening.

Lastly, why would you ever give a hive tyrant wings? I can't see any combo of units that would allow a HT to make full use of its wings without having to have termagants / tyranid warriors killed / left behind? Maybe so they can keep up with exocrines / haruspex / malefactors in a brute swarm? but even then it would only be a 5cm gain on his movement in that scenario, which hardly seems worth the drop in armour save?

Got bundles more questions but I'll save them for later :)

The EUK list is built around the infantry as the mainstay of the army and with this vehicles have lost out.

I like the Zoanthrope, but you are correct in that it can be a bit exposed to overall fire. I mainly play with bits of AA, Dominatrix, Gargoyles and a couple of Zoanthropes but don't go to heavily into it as the army normally has to take the first hit and then reacts to the treat.

If you try and copy my Expo list you will have to remember to be super aggressive with it otherwise the large War Engines don't get to be as effective as they should be.
