Good evening. I wanted to make a small contribution to the community by showing some shots of the Dropzone Commander Cityscape pack with Epic Miniatures. I recently sprung for the set, set it up today, and took some comparison shots for those who might be interested. (yes there is a thread with a couple shots in the 10mm painting thread)

Image

First is a selection of the buildings. You get 4 sets of each of the 5 styles for a total of 20 buildings. I have chosen a Warlord, Reaver, Warhound, Rhino, and Space Marine stand for scale. (Sorry the titans are still WIP!)

As you can see, some of the builidngs are quite tall, but the ones on the left aren't too extreme.

Lets compare the smallest buildings to epic miniatures.

Image

Image

As you can see, the scale isnt too bad at all, and the smallest building is big enough to hide a warlord.

Image

I put an actual Epic building next to the smallest of the DZC buildings for comparison to buildings that I had been using. This is the largest of the Epic buildings from the original set.

There is plenty of room for a tactical squad in the smaller building to spread out and be safer from template weapons.

Image

And you can fit several squads inside the largest of the buildings.

An entire 6x4 table set up looks like this.
Image

You get 24, 1'x1' double sided tiles to act as a play surface to simulate streets. There are parks, monuments, blank tiles, pretty much endless combinations.

Overall? I like the set. They are pretty buildings, and super easy to put together. They are partially pre-assembled, and I especially like the cornices at the top to keep models from flying off. Sizewise they might be a little big for some, but the scale of the doors and windows aren't really far off. With the bigger buildings able to hold multiple squads, I am hoping we might see some firefights between infantry in the same building.
If I have a complaint, it is the cardstock used for the ground tiles are too thin, and are prone to warping, and possibly sliding around the table. They would work very well on a table with a lip around the edge to keep them in place. They seem to stay still once some weight is placed on them.

MSRP is $45 (american) and if you look around, some retailers you can get it for $35 or even less. Not a bad deal really, if you are just starting off at 6mm scale, and you want some decent scenery. Given that I play Battletech, and these can do double duty for that, I am happy with the product.

Nice! I think they look fine for Epic.

You could always copy-reduce them to 60% being 10mm buildings....

In which case you'd download the free PDF versions rather than buying the pre-printed card ones. ;)

Although the height of the individual floors is a bit high, they're actually a lot closer to the correct scale than the GW buildings which work out at about 3mm scale. :(

Hmm, you could but considering the buildings of the empire are supposed to be "grand" (have you played the Space Marine Game??) then surely the scale is fine....

For the public buildings, 20' per storey is fine, but it looks a bit odd on the residential blocks. As far as I'm aware it's all due to DZC wanting to make them fit with the modular resin scenery pieces.

it does look good. -I don't suppose the building stack inside each other for storage?

Unfortunately no they do not. The smallest 4 buildings fit inside the larger ones, but no more stacking than that. The other 4 styles all share at least one dimension, so they do not stack.

I am new to cardboard scenery in general, I am thinking I might make foamcore inserts for the bottom to keep them square. The cardstock is solid, and weighty, I think some foamcore at the bottom might make them even more secure.

What glue do you use on the paper?

I didn't. After a lot of reading and an inability to source any glue that would hold with a low water content, I went with double sided scotch tape. We will see how that goes. :)

The seams are still holding 24 hours later. And it made them super easy to go together.

Hi!

Nice! I think I bought a bunch of these, but are in some box somewhere. Now that I know they look so cool I need to build them. :)

Edit: I went and Checked they are different from these. Mine where done by another manufacturer and looks to be of a think card stock and the bases are some acyclic material that's transparent before you paint them. Gotta find out whom made them though.

Would you mind mentioning what the whole setup in the picture cost?

Standard box. Forty five US dollars? Something like that. Bought mine before my son was born.... Sleep deprivation!

Hi!

That's pretty good. I remember when my kids were small, sleepless nights. Good time to do epic stuff..... ;)

Just finished playing on this table, it was aces.
The biggest problem is that the buildings are so light that the slightest bump moves them around, but a little bit of weight or bases would resolve that issue.
