Hello everybody,

Long time lurker, first time poster here. After finding this site around 2-3 years ago and being inspired I have been steadily collecting and building up several EA armies (6 started - 0 complete :) ). Anyway I now find myself with more free time and lots of almost painted armies so a perfect time to finally get some games in no?

What would people suggest is the best way to find people to play? I see a few posters who are in Yorkshire like me (i'm actually located in Wakefield at the moment). So, does anybody know of any clubs that meet and play EA in this area? Would it be acceptable to just turn up a tournament with no game experience but a good understanding of the rules?

Hopefully this isn't in the wrong place

Cheers

Howdy!

I like you have the same issue, but I am sorry to say I am up in Scotland. There is a thread with a list of players and locations

Hi Super, I'm not sure how much is going on around Leeds at the moment, but there are players down Rotherham way and three of us up in Harrogate. York seem to have gone quiet for the moment.

It is possible to play at the club in Harrogate, but you have to get in a couple of weeks in advance to arrange it as people get booked up. I mainly do weekend gaming so am prepared to travel or have people over to mine for a game. With the standard proviso of just as long as it doesn't conflict with tournaments, son's sport or something the wife has planned I'd love to give you a game.

Otherwise feel free to book a slot a tournament and come along. Everyone has to start at some stage and depending on who else is there you might find that there are plenty of other players who only play at tournaments as well. (That was true for me several years back.)

Thanks for replies guys. I'll try the suggested list of players and location thread.

I'd have no problems in a couple of hours trip either way for games so Rotherham or Harrogate should be no problem for me. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to arrange anything soonish. Otherwise I'll prob drop a PM after I manage to get a few pics of my armies and various projects on the boards.

I'll also keep an eye on the tournament section and just jump on board if I can make one. Shame I wasn't a few months earlier as the Sheffield tourny would of been nice and close. Oh well.

Cheers

Sadly this seems like a common problem. I'm also looking for some new opponents. What is heartening though is that there have been a fair number of new people posting, that can only increase the likelihood of finding new foes to battle against!

Hi Superunknown,

we play most thursdays at Dreamlike games in Mansfield woodhouse, a cursory glance at google maps reckons you're approximately an hour away, which is definitely do-able (I'm probably over an hour away and normally make it!)

there is a good group of us (4-6) most weeks, and as a relative newcomer to the group I can attest that they are a great and friendly bunch of guys, the standard is very high (the current and previous UK championship winners are regular attendees) but that tends to mean you learn quite a lot about just how many ways there are to lose a game.... ;)

we're also slowly branching out into other games (Warmaster, Dropzone, Flames of War) if there's any interest there too....

turn up to tournaments with no game experience but a reasonable rules understanding is fine - my first winter warmer tournament, my game 3 was against a guy who had literally only ever played 2 games in his life (those being the first and second games of the tournament) - It was an awesome game, and instantly got my vote for most sporting
