You'll get there Rastamann, I have every confidence in you! :)

I'm midly apprehensive myself, just hope I can get some decent footage and be able to cobble together something that doesn't completely stink!

Anyway, the lines have been closed and the votes counted and verified. I can reveal that the battle being fought for the report is....

....

....

Chaos v Imperial Guard!

Forces are as follows:-

Imperial Guard:

Heavy Infantry Company: 600 pts
Shadowsword Company: 650 pts
Predator Company: 600 pts
Rough Rider Company: 600 pts
Leviathan: 350 pts
2 x Ogryn Squads: 200 pts
+ 4 Commissars: Free

Chaos:

Bloodthirster: 300 pts
Primarch Angron: 300 pts
Lord of Battles: 400 pts
Fleshhounds: 100 pts
2 x Cannon of Khorne: 400 pts
2 x Bloodletters: 300 pts
2 x Juggernaughts: 300 pts
3 x Demon Engines: 900 pts

Okay, that's going to be quite a tough one for Chaos, especially if Imperial Guard win the initiative on turn one. Mass charge springs to mind as the only true Khornate option :D!

I hope that the video turns out well.

Haha! And I bet you can you guess who is Khorne! :-\

I'm hoping for a lot of cover! With the exception of the odd infantry unit, I'm likely to load everything down the one flank. Fingers crossed this tactic works! As a sidenote, I wanted to take a Warlord Titan but decided not to as I felt from a visual perspective it would dilute the Chaos force too much, and also because I don't think I'm allowed to take one with Khorne forces (although I could have went for a Banelord but don't have the model).

The Banelord is the worst unit in the entire Chaos army period in my experience, so it's just as well you don't have the model. I almost destroyed mine, owing to how useless it has been down the years :D.

I think that you've got the right idea to pile everything up one flank, that's what I'd do too in your position. It makes for a great demonstration to others of how to play Chaos in NetEpic. You've just got to get into close combat as quickly possible. Many a game I lost back in the 1990s through being too timid, and allowing my opponent an extra turn of shooting, which was very costly.

Looking forward to the tutoring side of this video. There's plenty of material to exploit.

Those two armies look great for the report. Red shows up really well on the terrain too, which will help to make units stand out during the filming.

A wee trailer for Saturday's battle.

The footage isn't exactly amazing but the "dolly" shots were done by sitting the camera tripod on a dvd case. I've never used the editing package before and cobbled the footage together tonight, learning as I went.

I'm hoping the Saturday's footage will be a bit sharper.

I am very interested in this!
I never played EA or NetEpic. So this will be informative. Just a view tipps. Use extra light sources to brighten up the set. Use some Lego or playmobil railway stuff for creating a dolly if you have some.
Don't move the camera with your hand move it with your arm. there are possibilities for creating a cheap steadicam.

A view cutting tipps. Make your titles way shorter than in your preview video. Cuts are easier to the eye when happening while the szene is in motion. Cut your movie before using blends. Ok that should be sufficient.

Thanks for the tips - I was literally mucking around with the camera the other night for 10 mins when I filmed those limited number of shots and then over the course of an hour pieced together the short trailer you just watched.

I had spotted the problem with the light - this surprised me as the lighting seems pretty good in the room. I'm going to use a desk lamp behind the camera to better light the board.

I don't have any lego but my nephew is bringing over a tonka truck which we hope to be able to adapt into a dolly. Love that tip about moving the camera with the arm, makes a lot of sense! Don't be too surprised to see a lot of static shots in the finished article though, my main aim is to give a good overview of the battle.

I didn't realise I could set the length of the titles but have figured that out now.

Really delighted to hear that this is of interest to you as someone who has never played any version of Epic. The system I'll be using for the report is NetEpic which is less popular than EA but I know the rules inside out, so don't have to think much about game mechanics while filming.

The main information I hope to put across is how the game is progressing, but I won't be explaining rules or showing much (if any) dice rolling. I do plan to film how to play the game in a seperate video after I am done with the report so perhaps that will be more useful to you.

I am more than happy to listen to any other tips or advice anyone else may have before Saturday!

Cheers!

PS I only threw music on to the trailer to put some sound in. I know fine well the will of the community is not to have any music so there won't be any on the battle report proper.

i actually have the epic 40k box since 15 years or so... without ever playing it. Somehow i never found someone to play with. And with time i forgot it. I played or play warmaster, BFG, 40k, WHFB. But my favourites were always the small scales. Bought some DRM miniatures just for fun.

Some more tipps. if you know someone with a recent digital DSLR camera, most of these have video functionality now. Because of the better optics you don't need as much light and you record in HD/ 720p. Wich video software do you use?

It's an HD camera that I've got, that should have recorded in 720p, but don't have access to others. I'm using Windows Moviemaker to edit the footage. We'll see how it goes!

The battle report is in the can!

Had a preliminary look at some of the footage, we did use a desk lamp to try and brighten things up but it isn't going to be Citizen Kane by any stretch of the imagination. Also, there was no avoiding having to do some hand-held camera work (for overviews) which unfortunately isn't quite as smooth as hoped.

That's the bad news, the good news is that I'm very confident that I'll be able to edit together a fairly coherent report that I'm hopeful people might enjoy.

We both really enjoyed the battle, but two major blunders proved incredibly costly at the end... I think if we were to do this again, I'd hope to enlist the help of a third person so the players can concentrate fully on the game at hand. Filming and gaming don't mix!

One question though before I start recording my commentary; how do you pronounce "Khorne". Is it as I have been pronouncing it for years; "Corn", "Corn-neigh" or "Corn-neh" (I don't mean "Corny"). Any guidance here would be helpful!

Cheers!

Khorne is pronounced in the same way as the farm crop, so the first of three.

I agree that a third person would have been ideal, but finding someone who's happy to do that, and knows what to focus on during the game isn't necessarily going to be that easy.

I look forward to seeing the result of your editing.

That's a great link, thanks for sharing that! I'll definitely need to try that out if I decide to do another one.

Tomorrow will be editing day, possibly maybe even do the commentary. Hope to get it all cut together as soon as possible, but I don't want to say when I'll post in case it takes longer than anticipated! Also, I'll set up a new thread but will post the link here for anyone following this thread.

Thanks for the support, hope the video turns out to be worthwhile!
