Your tenacity and dedication are inspirational. Or frightening. Or both.

It's a damn good read. :)

I can't spoiler nothing, one turn left. All will be decided in the next 4 - 5 activation, my orks had lost for 3 time the initiative, we will see... heheheh.... Ok, all ready to the final rush. Next week will arrive the ending, because each story, have an end.

//A new perspective roleplay, for TURN 18-19, its another path, that halfway overviews the previous events and later joins in to the present, preparing the long awaited TURN 20.//

Hive Infernus. An absolute level strategy value. Giant manufactorums, billions of manpower, standalone navigational point (Psychic Tower) and many secrets.

Mainly we can say the gigantic Hive City was not the exclusive home of imperial society. Outlaws, heretics, mercenaries and rogues found their haven in the deep mazes of pipes and tunnels that were built eons ago.
Fresh among these cults were the Circle of Ynew, formed by Froissart Almanor.
The Circle of Ynew had only four members including their master Almanor. They came from many places, and had different pasts, they shared common tireness of the Imperiums cruelty and burocracy. For that, all of them were written on the lists of Inquisiton, by spreading treachorous apostolates and helping, hiding a deserter Froissart Almanor a former Imperial Primaris Psyker.
Almanor believed that psychic abilites are part of humanity, and instead of purging it, they should utilize it. Same way as the Grand Master of Terra as he called, the God-Emperor. Another word heresy, portaying a god, as a human, with simply the highest psychic prowess. He concieved a distaste of the inhuman regime that is the Imperium.
But time has changed, and finally establishing the hideout of the Circle, the news of a massive ork invasion struck.
-What are we going to do now? *a young male latent psyker Gilvharon, saved from being inducted into the Psychic Tower asked.*
-Stay calm, Gilvharon. Come. Everyone, let's discuss it, as there is a change is about to begin.
*Members of the Circle joined together in a hall of the hideout.*
-I think we should leave, while we can. If the orks come, then they shall punish those vainglorious imperialists. *Gilvharon spoken again. Now another psyker joined the conversation, blind-Joev, who was once an Astropath, now abandoned service due to intriques he sternly refuses to tell about even as drunk.* -I agree with Gilvharon that they deserve their fate, but the means of escape, I guess is limited. An ork invasion is no joke, not for this planet, but perhaps the entire sector, I heard they led by Ghazghkull one of the strongest, if not the strongest ork. *Joev swallowed then continued.*
We may easily drive away some scum acolytes trying to hunt us down in the name of the so called Inqusition, but an entire horde looking for loot and burn thereafter is a different story...
-Joev, you suggest us to leave our finally established hideout and risk leaving the planet? *Almanor asked.*
-In this case, definietly yes. *blind-Joev answer was dead serious. Elianna a young female latent psyker just like Gilvharon, saved from being inducted into the Psychic Tower gave opinion.*
-The escape from this planet is very risky for us. Every spacecraft is highly secured and if any little acolyte, law author, anyobody detects us then we are doomed. Also it is not certain that the imperialists going to lose, I sense that none of us knows the outcome of this upcoming invasion. *Elianna staring at Almanor.* None of us, right? *Almanor smiles* -Right. Indeed even I can't foretell what will happen. The sure thing is, we cannot run away, and if the imperials lose, we will share their fate.
-Then we shall fight too! *Gilvharon interrupts. But then thinking through what he said, he tries correcting.* I mean, remotely, with a pentagramm "discipline".
*blind-Joev vituperates.* -Fine lets just help those insane fools... any worse idea, nobody?
-What else could we really do? Our current situation is tenable, but if orks win, then theres no miracule that would save us! *Elianna certainity, upseted blind-Joev.*
-I can't believe you just say that. There is always a choice. You can't help those dogs, after what they have done to you! What they have done to us!
*Everyone in the hall remained silent for some seconds. They all went through a whirlwind of events and thoughts from the past up until the present, yet the future refused to open itself, despite their abilites.*
-We are forced to choose the lesser evil then. *Almanor stood up, and spoken firmly.* We cannot escape, nor survive unless the imperialists repel the ork invasion, which process is available to us to support indirectly and perhaps, effectively. Gilvharon though young and harsh, have given a good option. A pentagramm discipline, which probably you may all aware of, capable to protect us from the perils of the warp, also enhanching our powers to take affect at a fare distance.
-Protect? Heh. *blind-Joev apatheticly cut in.* Stepping into the warp, there is no such thing of protection. Nothing is eternal, but everchanging, and also a pentagramm discipline especially with multiple chanter will concentrae soo much power that itself will magnetize here all the worst from the midst of chaos. Is that what you want? *Gilvharon takes the answer.*
-Hey, don't be rude Joev. We all are jittered by this situation. It is extreme, and extreme situtaion requires extreme solution. Even you don't know what else could be done, right?
-I... damn, this is not my taste. I won't play suicide hero, and I definietly won't do that for those underhuman rats! I joined the Circle of Ynew to survive and safely practice my gifts as for once in a time it doesn't be a curse, and you just asked me to bring that curse back?!
*Almanor steps close to blind-Joev, putting his hands on old Joevs shoulder.* -You volunteerly joined us, which I greatly respect, and you are free to leave whenever you want. I will not blame you, as I don't have the right to justify your decision. I can merely ask, if we are meaning anything to you, stay and help us.
*Joev feels everyone look on him, without eyes which he never had.* - W ... well, I.. damn. I respect you Alm, and you too guys, but I can't do it. You all may be gifted, but I know you never heard those beasts in the warp! You didn't see them, you didn't hear them but I do! Up to this age I wasn't be able to get use to them... it is nightmare! You should fear them as nothing else in the world!
At the night when we heard the news from the ork, I dreamed their laughter! It was horrible! *Joev got sweatened, and tears appeared on his face. All the psykers clearly felt his agony, the broken soul.*

*Hours later, with blind-Joev leaving, the trio have made the preparations for the pentagramm discipline.
Almanor were familiar with the magnetic storms, and suggested for the Circle members, that they should try alter it at some degree, to use against the orks. Elianna stated that the storms are so strong and concentrated that even slightest of alteration is a very hard task to enforce.
In the form of deep lumberings, almost earthquakes they felt it clearly. The battle has begun.*
-Master Almanor! *Gilvharon knocked on Almanors cabin-door. Seconds later the master opened it and came out.*
-Is everything ready?
-Yes, master. Pentagramm is painted, signum candles lighted, protective mantras placed. We are prepared for alteration.
-Good, let us begin then, as the warp are already filled with the cries of battle!
-Indeed, I can sense it too, master.
*They entered the hall, where Elianna awaited on her place. Almanor speaks again, with a little sadness in his voice.*
-You two must be aware, that once we start it, there is no turning back, no matter what happens. The chanting must be kept and then when we finish, be closed properly. If there is but one mistake... anything could happen.
*Elianna replied.* -The protective mantras are there to correct out.
-Yes, but these have their limits.
-We don't have time for this! *Gilvharon cut in.* Men dying out there, it is now or never!
*And so the Circle of Ynew began the ritual chants to combine their psychic potential into altering the storms.
As the psykers opened their minds for the immaterium, they become a light in the darkness. And the darkness containing the most horrific beings soon began waving towards the light. Like a hunter, they closed up on their prey. The signum candle lights increased, the mantras slowly started flaunting, but there was no wind, not even a breeze in the hall.*
~I can feel the storm. It is so mighty, it is so pure.~ *Elianna thought it, but the other two sensed it aswell. Since their minds are now joined together.*
~There is darkness around us! It was never so close!~ *Gilvharon freightened.*
~Stay calm, Gilvharon. Focus on the storm. Feel it, and feel it only. *Almanor instructed through psy.* See it's pure light, feel it's warm. Don't push it, try to be it... be the light Gilvharon.
*The darkness were circling around them, but gain no entrance into their soul, they didn't find any gap. Elianna grimmed.*
~I can sense them. The orks, the men, the machinery. It's all there.~ *Almanor continued the instructions, while the trio kept chanting. The candle lights didn't cease increasing and now they more like a torch. The mantras flaunting harder.*
~We are the storm. We are the will. The men must be preserved, the ork must be desolated. Feel the light, feel it's warm. Don't lead it. Be it! *They started sweatening, as the storms in real, have struck upon the surface.*
~It's too hard, I can't hold it.~ *Gilvharon cried out. Almanor quickly replied.*
~Don't give up yet, we are so close to aim it... ahhhhhhhhrrrr... don't give up Gilvharon! Stay focused!~
*Gilvharon fell out of the pentagramm. The candles light burst out to the ceiling. The mantras extremely flaunting, the pentagramm white painting getting darker, becoming grey.
~Allright Elianna. Help me enclose the ritual.~ *Elianna screams.*
~Master!! It's upon you!~
~I can hold it!! Now ... close it... try... Elianna!~ *Almanor mind has been touched by something from the warp. A dark and cold touch. All his hair spilled, blood streamed out from his nose. But in the warp, he gained vision. Scales, detailes, power... it was all at his hand, meanwhile the darkness slowly suffused him.*
~Elianna don't close it, I'm okay. This is something wonderful... you should join to see...~ *But then the candle lights put out, the mantras teared in pieces, the paintings returned to white. The ritual was closed.
The master fall to the ground, and the two, tried to help him.*
-Master! Don't give up, fight back against the beast!

//Hmmm this took very long. :) It's not finished as the previous ones. Let's call it a part1, and tomorrow sometime I'll do part2, there you will find out how the Circle of Ynew is contributed to the whole battle and a specific character, not just TURN 8. ;) //

Excellent work Sir Commissar!!
I've added in the intro of turn 20 as background (ACT I) of the Great Ending.
I wait the second ACT, if is possible before the ending, to complete the EPIC story that I've call: PSIKERS ON THE STORM.

Fantastic work!!

//Roleplay for Psikers on the storm ACT II//

*Almanor were still lying unconsciously on his bed. Gilvharon and Elianna gave their best to treat him, changing cold pack for his fever. But this was no ordinary illness. It's source were far beyond their understanding. At least, they stopped the bleeding, and their master looked stable... but for the battle within he was alone in the darkness. Gilvharon turned to Elianna.* -You are so... speechless. *The women, still wavering a little, replied almost in a whisper.* -It is allright, I'll be fine. The master... lets just look after him. He seems to be thirsty, I'll get some drawn water.
*Gilvharon did not abandon the solace and instead he get the water.
In the hall burnt smell were still around, it was a mess. The two were trying to clean up. The gloom feeling, the pressure weighted their hearts even more, as the constant battle sounds, and lumberings never stopped, but rather got more frequent, more close. Again, Gilvharon tried to break the sadness.*
-Everything will be okay. The master is strong, he was a Primaris, don't forget that. Even you are very talented, Elianna. Only if I wouldn't be so careless...
-It's not your fault either. We... were not ready for this. *It seemed that tears appeared in Elianna's eyes.*
-We got through the Psychic Tower, we gona got through this! *Gilvharon cuddled Elianna, who tried to hold her crying, and were snuffling.*
*They heard bootsteps, and the little couple freightenedly turned over to the source, only to recognize their master, Froissart Almanor.*
~Master! You are okay!~ *They wanted to say it, but their voice just tied up on their throats.*
-We must prepare another pentagramm discipline. The battle is going worse, the orks are clearly advancing. *Almanors voice was as cold as a space wolf's gaze. Gilvharon and Elianna were shocked by it.*
-What happened master? You defeated the beast?! *Gilvharon asked. While Elianna took some unperceived steps back, and tried to prepare psychic attacks, just in case if the "answer" were vice versa.*
-I would call it a stall. I thanked the Primaris rank for this discipline. The beast is encaged, locked. Within me. *Almanors voice were terrifyingly monotonous as if this were normal, and natural.* It will slip it's chain and so my time is short. That's why we have to prepare another ritual. *Almanor's look "freezed" Gilvharon, but not Elianna, who finished focusing her power in a psychic shock, ready to be unleashed. Her teared eyes now in flames. She yelled.*
-YOU ARE NOT OUR MASTER! YOU WANT TO OPEN A PORTAL, DEMON! *The scratchy zipping shock arrow, a mere fraction of the great storm, fell towards Almanor.
The Primaris Psyker already prepared an earth wall, with his left arm, which he conjured in time to absorb the psychic shock. Almanor continued with the same coldness in his voice, not even a spark could be felt... with or without psychic ability.*
-You are my dearest student, Elianna. I don't regret the effort saving you from the Psychic Tower. Same with you Gilvharon. You were supposed to be the hard point of the Circle.
*Gilvharon while still a bit stunned, get at Almanor.* -Everyone stop! Whats happening? What is the plan, then?! We can't hold an another alteration, master!
-I only asked to prepare the discipline, but you didn't allow me to tell, which one. There is logic in what Elianna stated, but I can assure you the truth is what I said. Hence you two are still alive. *The two looked on each other, then back to Almanor, their pulse still high, wavering, breathing heavily, thoughts like a whirling ocean.*
To keep the beast at bay, I annihilated my astral body, thus breaking my own soul into a single mental body. This imply that my very existence in the immaterium will perish soon. It is only my powers that holds me together temporarily. Use your eyes of empyrean, and see it yourselves if you don't believe.
*The two were just standing, and listening, did not move, did not act. They wanted answers, they wanted to know. Almanor continoued.*
-The plan of alteration, failed. I expected too much of you, and I remember I would be deeply sorry for that. But as the beast approached me, trying to gain entry to my soul, I gained the same entry to it's mind aswell. It was filled with a vision of death. I saw the early fall of Infernus, where the Imperial Guard collapse before the reinforcements arrive. One by one, they are going to fall, and the orks triumph. A space marine detachment, the ferocious space wolf, will arrive only to find xeno victory and a city stomped into the dust.
*These horrible words were devilishly escorted by the lumberings, and minor quakes... a plastaluminium bottle fall to the sooty concrete ground.*
Then I heard a pray. *Gilvharon interrupted.* -There were millions of prays, cries were to be heard. I heard them too! *Almanor continued, his tone unchanged.*
-Yes, but this one. Like a peak, stalwartly resisting the flood, was different. This wasn't a pray for help, for survival... this was a pray of honor, to fight on until the last breathe.
*Elianna said the name, with staring at the others.* -Holt...
-Yes, Elianna, I know you sensed him aswell. A political officer of the Imperial Guard. I saw his death. Saw it actually... three times. And knew, if he would live, he could turn the tide of battle.
*Elianna took the words and continued to Gilvharon, who looked very surprised, and hard believing what he is hearing.*
-He... has some sort of... aura. They look up on him, the men. If he lives, then the men will keep fighting, but I saw his death which brought the fighting spirit down... just to be followed by a ... a ... massacre, it was so terrible. *Gilvharon turned to Almanor.* But I don't understand master. How he died three times?
-Beacuse he was saved each time. It is a vision, a possible future. If Holt survives the battle, the Guard will hold out until reinforcements, but if he dies too early, they will shatter before anything could be done.
*Gilvharon numbly asked.*
-Master, you mean that we could use the pentagramm disciple to resurrect Holt? *Elianna ardently interrupted.*
-Resurrection produces inequity in the warp!
*Almanor like a teacher, as he meant to be, tryied to calm his students.* -Resurrection indeed causes inequity, but there is another discipline that may be used with pentagramm.
*Gilvharon and Elianna couldn't response, and so Almanor gave them the solution, which they may surmised deep within, but were too afraid to face it.*
-Exchange. A pentagramm disciple of exchange will keep the equation and won't disturb the warp, despite swapping ones fate with others.
*Silence sat down in the hall. Not even a combatsound. Then of a sudden a huge lumbering, probably from an apocalyptic explosion, dramatically impacted, vibrated through the entire underground system. The hideout of the Circle of Ynew, almost collapsed. Then again, the awkward silence occupied its throne over the three psyker.*
-This is literally a sacrifice!! *Gilvharon shouted.* You can't ask this! *Almanor stood in his place, tenaciously.*
-We are out of option, and it seems this is our fate afterall. I taught you the Grand Master. He does sacrifice himself each day, for humanity. For ten millenia, he keeps the evil at bay, and so humanity has hope.
It is the least as if we can contribute in his great determination, that we take the chance.
I won't order you to do this, I don't even ask for it... you have your options, but I don't. I'll die anyway, so I'll die to be use for humanity as this is one of the main intention of the Circle of Ynew.
*Almanor began the preparations, leaving the two with the chaos of thoughts and feelings.*
-Will you do it Elianna?... Elianna!
-Hm, Gilv... am I don't know... I was thinking about Holt.
-Whats so about him? A ruthless commissar, killing even his own.
-It's not that simple! I sensed his feelings. He was uncertain, and always thinkering. I can't understand how is he able to face all this by decision. A decision to give up everything whenever needed... how could he?
*Elianna looked into Gilvharon's eyes.*
Will you do it Gilvharon?

*The preparations have been made again. The trio once again began chanting together. Gilvharon looked up on his master, and accepted his words, his fate. Elianna were still hesitating, but she knew, that there is no escape... she saw her own death aswell, hacked and raped by orks. As their minds joined together again, Gilvharon's heart almost broke in two, to know this, as Elianna didn't told it to anyone. Almanor lead the chanting.*
~Open your mind to the immaterium. Sweep in. Look for the heart of valour. Look for the man named Holt.~
Across time and space, they saw comissar Holt praying, and inducing a combat drug into himself. They knew he will survive the explosion, but he will die eventually by bleeding out or his organs mouldered by the toxicous drug.*
~There Gilvharon! He must not die here.~ *And so Gilvharon vented his powers raw out into the warp. Almanor and Elianna directed this energy to Holt. The political officer, lying under the smoking carcass of a grot, feeling that this is the end... suddenly were able to sit up, and then move. His bleeding stopped, the dazes of the drug gone... and Gilvharon was no more, his body drop in. A drop of tear followed him aswell.*
~Press onward. We must not stop... argghhhh.
Pass the time, minutes now, then hours next... follow his move. Distinguish it from the others.
Good.
Hold it. It is there, among the veteran troopers of the Guard. He leads them. Argggghhhh... my time is short, I used up all my powers Elianna. You have to keep the chanting alone, and finish what the Cirlce of Ynew have started. For the Grand Master, for humanity we must do it.~
*Intense firefight beetween the veterans and orks erupted. Commissar Holt controlled the fireorders of the company. He took hits from ork shootas. A some of them deflected by the flak jacket, but unfortunately another burst penetrated it and stopped in his lung. Holt couldn't take a breath, suffocating into death... he saw... he saw the Emperor himself! It was so bright he wasn't able to see details, but he felt it was him.
By this time, he took a deep breath and sat up wondered. The hits he took were only scars.
Bulletholes appeared at Almanors body, his lungs to be certain and he died in suffocation, leaving Elianna alone to hold.
She were flying in time and space, she went through the stars, and wanted to scream by pain as the discipline demanded too much energy from her. It seemed she will die just by trying to keep chanting. Dived back to Hive Infernus. Searching for the light, the miracle they created.
She clearly heard the cling of a weapon... a grenade perhaps... she felt the tormented muscles ponderously trying to throw a plasma grenade at a giant ork. She felt the explosion.*
~He survived it! No, he will have heart attack! He can't bear it, nor can I!~
*Elianna leaned down to Holt. She fondled his wounded face, then leaned closer as her powers diminished and gave... gave a kiss.
The veterans carried their leader away from the scene of engagement, and they just surprised as Holt again, lived. He was also able to stand again, after all the hours of fighting. The men were amazed, and Holt used it to inspire them. Yet he was still unsure how this happened, he felt his death, then it's gone... he lifted his hands on his mouth...*~It wasn't a dream?~
*Nonethless the Imperial Guard held it's lines against the invaders, and so the battle continued. Reinforcements arrived, and every piece were placed on the chess-table.*

*Now commissar Holt, holding the battered Palace, he founds something on the smoking ground. Something among the corpses of fallen soldiers. A flak helmet blackened and torn into pieces yet the Imperial Aquila remained clear white on it. Yarrick have chosen to not speak again, and so does Holt.
The final assault is about to come, and there will be no mercy for the loser, but mourning for the victor.*

Is the sacrifice enough to succed? Does humanity have hope? Nothing of these is ensured, the answers are shadowy and falls among riddles in the warp, all the answers... but one.
There is only war.

I. LOVE. THIS. NOVEL!!!!
Added in the Pantagruelic intro of turn 20.
Now, my warlords, we have to do only one thing:
throw down the gauntlet to the fate and roll the last initiative.

Many thanks Commissar, this story is a fantastic intro background for the last act!

I'll be to you soon!
Yours.

All good things must come to an end...

Congratulations on a fantastic battle report that I'm sure will go down in Tactical Command history as one of the best ever! It's been a blast following your blog over the past few months, thanks for sharing this with us all!

I know how much work goes into writing a standard battle report, so I've been stunned at your tenacity in sticking with it, reporting so much detail, and also keeping each turn so exciting!

Well done once again - can't wait for the next one!

Thanks Bissler, you have all my sentiments.

I have tried in this battle report a compromise between a classic report (the detachment X fire at detachment Y) and a more narrative solution, with one foot in the dedicated 40k science fiction and the other in the real cruelty of war with all its horrors, in order to derive a report/novel that alternated epic moments in purely dramatic moments. Ah! The dices, then the fate done the rest. I wrote down the events as they occurred on the battlefield.
I'm sure I can improve the style, such as insert pictures right after the narrative text block inherent (done in the last 4-5 posts).

^°^
Your.
