The game is cool, but to be honest I would have prefered a box set. As much as people gripe about Epic 40k, that was an excellent box set, so I could only imagine if GW had gotten their act together, they could have done an even better one this time. I mean, look back at all the excellent plastics that came in that set. Much better than when we are getting now. Hell, if they just replaced the Epic 40k rulebooks and kept the minis, dice, etc etc I would have thought that would have been fine too.
I have yet to get into Warmaster cause I just hate games not having a main box set. Weird I know cause I know a lot of people like it. But I see myself as much as a collector as a gamer, and without a main box set to store all the magazines, and other material I don't even like to bother. I don't believe we get all of our excitement from just playing, cause I think we put much more time into reading and building our armies than we do playing it. Sometimes I just love opening a box set and just going through it all like I am reading a book. Weird I know.
Maybe if Epic A is successful, GW will pick up support for it. I mean, what else is on the horizon after LOTR? We have skirmish games like Mordheim and Necromunda, mass combat games like Epic and Warmaster, BFG, Inquisitor, 40k, and Warhammer. I hate to say this, but I can't help but wonder if Fanatic keeps GW from going back and making a completely new Necromunda game from scratch or something. Not that there is anything wrong with Necromunda, but it isn't a mainstream game. What else is there for GW to do? Everything I think you can do is covered. . .
ANYWAY. . .
I love how armies in EpicA are selected, and the whole upgrade system. I would have liked to have seen a little more flexibility, but this is good.
I never got the split-fire thing I am so well known for, but that is really the only thing that bothers me. I know for the rest of your lives when you hear split fire, you'll think of me. I don't like free Rhinos either. I don't like metal ones either. Too expensive $$ wise and they don't do much. I am glad we have characters too.
I don't have much interest in the Orks though. I liked it when they were a colorful mob with lots of personality. Right now they just don't have that to me, and it does kill my interest in the game a little bit. Maybe it is just the way they are presented, I don't know. The Gunwagonz are a disappointment. I am also glad I talked Jervis into two support formations for the Steel Legion! I like the IG much better that way.
I also would have prefered a new location other then Armageddon.
Other than that, it is definately one of the better GW games out right now, and I think word will spread that it is.
