I've been unpacking all my miniatures post-house move and I've got a nice FW reaver titan (3 missile pods) model who needs a good strip and paintjob, as well as a game or three.....

I'm wondering how one actually goes about using a reaver.....? he's not as speedy as a warhound, but not slow and lumbering like a warlord..... do I use him as a warlord-lite, marching him to contest my two tightly grouped T&H objectives, or should I use him more as a tank company replacement, sticking him in my opponent's face and forcing him to deal with it?

then there's list synergy, do I take a warhound for all the regular warhound duties (such as tripping over ruins and killing themselves, or getting blown sky high at extreme range by hammerheads while trying to look inconspicuous in some terrain to name two random, non-specific examples) at the expense of having no planes (especially since I have three flights of freshly painted thunderbolts) or do I 'rely' (using the term loosely) on formations of mechanised infantry and mounted stormtroopers to give my my speed and objective-grabbiness?

I've had a look at some of the tournament lists, but reavers are quite thin on the ground..... is there a reason?

some suggestions of possible reaver-centric builds would be greatly appreciated!

My issue with the reaver is its too vulnerable to be on its own so has to be protected by scouts etc.
With IG I'd use it as a tank co substitute with a warhound

As a tank co substitute definately. I'd probably go for the fighters over the Warhound though for AA duties. That being said, I don't win as many games as Steve!

I must admit, when I saw the title of this thread I had assumed it was in relation to a marine army.

Warhounds do really make a Guard army quite vicious wheras Reavers are a bit lackluster because they don't really bring anything new to the table and do badly affect the Compant:support structure as Rug quite rightly says.

yeah that was how it seemed to me, although they also don't take up any company/support slots either.....

Mark Preston has done pretty well with a warlord+tank company combination, both are hard to destroy, both can hit pretty hard, if you focus on one, you ignore the other..... wondering if I can shoehorn a reaver into a list with a SHT company and not make it too slow......

I have to say that the Reaver is a pretty good choice in the Balck Legion list too - for the same reasons as it is in the loyalist list.

I don't bring the Reaver along my tank coys in the Minervan list. Too expensive and I normally field one super-heavy and one normal tank company. So for the Reaver there are no points to field. Warhounds are another thing to bother with. But the Reaver ist IMO an equivalent to the tank coy. But: Tank Coy is slightly better IMHO, and it allows me to field two support formations which is the breakpoint.

But in our last 10k game Imps vs Orks I field one and it worked well. But not for 3k.

Not sure if you have other titans, but Reavers do quite well in the AMTL lists - though you do need to have a number of other titans as well (obviously)

I am planning a titan list, but waiting for EUK to develop theirs further....

Gonna play around with him next week and see how he fares as a tank company replacement for my guard....

In a Titan List, he is the prime Battle Titan. Warlords are to expensive to field at 3k with AMTL.

I always field at least one Warlord in AMTL lists, sometimes even two, even at 3K; This has worked well in the past. Here's a sample list.

Incompertus, 3000 POINTS
Legio Gryphonicus (NetEA v3.18 *UNDER DEVELOPMENT*)
==================================================

WARLORD TITAN [1050]
Legate, Carapace Multi-Lasers, 2 Quake Cannon, Carapace Landing Pad, Support Missile

WARLORD TITAN [950]
Veteran Princeps, Carapace Multi-Lasers, Volcano Cannon, Laser Blaster, 2 Apocalypse Rocket Launcher

WARHOUND TITAN [300]
Turbolaser Destructor, Plasma Blastgun

WARHOUND TITAN [300]
Turbolaser Destructor, Vulcan Megabolter

RECON PLATOON [100]
4 Sentinels

THUNDERBOLT FIGHTERS [150]
2 Thunderbolts

THUNDERBOLT FIGHTERS [150]
2 Thunderbolts

Well, k. But there is no large Walking Robot in my Army, and I don't want small ones with the GW Warlord in my army. It's not an argument, I know.

But your List seems ok, but in my thougts a little bit light on warhounds. I usally field at least one pack of them, but I like 2 packs more. But it is worthless to discuss flavour in my opinion.

Slight threadomancy ;)

I would be interested what people think about the Reaver for either Black Legion or the cult Chaos armies in the EpicUK environment?

More specifically, can a Reaver take the role as a anti-armour solution to take pressure of assault focused formations?
Or allow for a "toolbox" style list, where you got specialised elements dancing around and setting themselves up (in turn 1) while the big robot takes the beating.
650 points to much for an anvil in a 3k list?

A quick peek at the Black Legion lists in the E-UK championship suggests that Ravagers and Banelords are rarely used (the Chaos equivalent of the Reaver and Warlord titans). This is probably because there are cheaper alternatives, and also because of the points constraints within the lists. On the other hand, DeathWheels and Ferals abound and provide the anti-armour and mobility you require.

The Reaver equivalent may be more appropriate in the other Cult Chaos lists, but these lists have not been used as much.
