Hi all! I have collected a large Tyranid army but have never played them (been lurking for years tho). I have a few questions on two units:
1) Synapse Node - Do you just deploy this in your deployment zone or garrison it? I seem to remember a version with it teleporting (or its old age messing with me again).
2) Meiotic Spore Sack/Meiotic Spore (depending on which list Im looking at) - What is the story here? They are just slow moving units that "float" along providing some AA? They are not launched or teleported, right?
3) I see three separate lists A) 6.7.2.1 Phase IV Tyranid Hive Fleet (v9.2.1) from the Epic 2.0 Compendium B) HIVE FLEET LEVIATHAN ARMY LIST from the 08-09-12 Army List Compendium C) HIVE FLEET ONACHUS TYRANID ARMY LIST from the 08-09-12 Army List Compendium
Are any of these more balanced/correct to use vs the other? I see the differences but it seems they each give up something for whatever extra they get over the other list.
Thanks!

Don't use A, the special rules in B or C are what we're testing now. Any feedback is appreciated, I'm aiming to have Onachus approved this year.

If you can start getting some games in great. I tend to garrrison with Nodes whenever I play with them (& yes they could teleport at one stage). I'd follow Dave's advice and have a go at Onachus.

My opinion: B) HIVE FLEET LEVIATHAN ARMY LIST from the 08-09-12 Army List Compendium Too much 4+/5+ RA fearless in the army makes this list too much about the big things and a bit pointless to have small things, especially as it has a bonus to rally so as long as you make your saves you don't care about losing assaults or breaking. The list writer hasn't touched it for < 6 months. OTOH, it includes all the new bugs!
C) HIVE FLEET ONACHUS TYRANID ARMY LIST from the 08-09-12 Army List Compendium Some things which people feel to be unbalanced, i.e. dominatrix and BP-heavy hierodules. It's mostly okay but with the cheesey bits I mentioned.
D) the Epic UK list Lives and dies because of how expendable gaunts are - if a lot of them are involved, you will rarely lose an assault as they'll take the hits and you will usually outnumber an opponent anyway. There's a lot of useless stuff in the list which if you want to play to win you will never use: hive tyrants, carnifexes, the other AV bugs, bio-titans (except dominatrix which is half useful). If you have no problems in using lots of tyranid warriors, gaunts, genestealers and harridans almost exclusively, then it works and is balanced although it will lose horribly to Eldar since it has no firepower to take care of skimmers. The competition lists and their results back what I just wrote.

It depends on the metagame were you live/play. If people use netEA lists (compendium ones) go with Onachus. If you play epicUK list then I'd suggest go with the their list.
