Egads, that is terrible. I don't recall that last paragraph at all. I don't know what we were thinking when we wrote that.

There shouldn't be a BM.

The point of the FAQ is if you don't get a BM for destroying the unit, you don't get a BM for Disrupting it, either.

While we are at it:

Q.: What happens if a disrupting attack that cannot damage the enemy units hit? For example, 1) a Noise marine stand shoots his Blastmaster on a Leman Russ Company, but chooses to use the AP line.

2) Alternatively, [insert AP only Disrupt weapon] shoots the same Leman Russes.

3) Alternatively, the same scenario, except the Leman Russ Company has a single stand of ratling snipers.

That's how I thought it was, based on various conversations on here over the years, but yeah it looks like you worded the FAQ badly and need to poke it. :-)

If you fire an AP weapon at an AT type target, they can take a BM for coming under fire, but they can't suffer any hits (disrupting or otherwise) if you're only shooting AP.
Best to choose the AT statline. :-)

As above - if it's an AP attack, it can't place any hits.

Ratlings get assigned the disrupting hit (as long as they were in range and LOF to be hit).

If they pass a cover save, they keep the disrupting hit just like normal.

I think this is an example of a bad FAQ - probably from the beginning TBH. For grots I think it is complicated and debatable, but I actually don't understand why it was decided that disrupt should not place blast markers for void shields.

The point of a void shield is that it prevents a hit from striking the armour (and thus potentially cause damage): "each void shield will automatically stop one point of damage and then go down". It doesn't make the hit not a hit, nor remove the blast marker like the explanation for grots. You simply don't place the blast marker for damage, because there was no damage. Disrupt hits explicitly don't need to do any damage whatsoever to place a BM, so IMO disrupt hits should place BMs all the same. I don't see how a void shield shorting out stops you being disrupted (e.g. the ground shaking) any more than making an armour save does.

By contrast, holofields (the rule for which is more ambiguous than the void shield rule) "make the Titan a very hard target to hit" and thus have been interpreted - correctly IMO - to negate the hit in the first place and thus no disrupt blast markers are placed. Thus being also supported by the explanation of how saves on TK weapons work. To put it simply, you disrupted a place where the titan isn't, so the titan is not disrupted. If it gets through the holofield but is saved by the armour, a disrupt weapon -does- place a BM. This all seems quite obvious to me and requires no conjuring of rules.

I thought the last paragraph was added because it was agreed that they do take a BM if they survive a disrupt hit as the grot rule only states that the Ork formation ignores the BM for grots that are killed.
Quote:
Notes: Formations that include at least one Ork unit don’t receive blast markers for Grotz units that are killed, and don’t count Grotz units that are lost in an assault when working out who has won the combat.

Also don't forget grotz do take BM's when there are no other Ork units left in their formation they don't automatically ignore BM's, that only happens when they die and there are Orks units still alive.

Thanks E&C. What if 200 AP disrupt hits are shot at that 1 Ratling and 10 Russ formation?

201 BMs?

I don't know the intent. I didn't write it (at least, I can't remember writing it and it is different than my normal writing style).

That said, I would not expect it to work that way. I thought the agreed approach is that all the "negates hits" and "no BM for dying" effects work the same way.

Technically, yes. It's pretty rare that you actually have more disrupt hits than valid targets, though.
