I thought it said the land raiders were 20 pounds. Oops. I screwed up on the Battle Company too. My bad. Anyway, what I psoted still comes to $100. I still think that is too much for what you would be getting.

I completely don't understand this, Gandalf. You posted nearly 2500 points of models. Throw in a few more blisters and you have a very well-rounded 3000 point force for less than $150. That's a tournament army with a few options thrown in for fun.
The thing I remember was you stating repeatedly that Epic was going to be worse than 40K or WHFB as far as army cost. A decent 40K army at 2000 points (RT level, plus a few options) is going to run you $200 at an absolute bare minimum, and that's if you can figure out how to do it with nearly all plastic models. Most likely, you can count on $300 if you want a competitive force with a minimum of flexibility.
Clearly, Epic is significantly cheaper to get into than either mainstream option, and GW has had tons of growth in those lines. At almost half of the core line cost, Epic should not be priced out of the market at the current levels.
Why do you think $150 for a competitive tournament army is unreasonable?

Yeah, I agree with Neal here... EpicA is cheaper than 40k and WHFB to collect, which is the background the vast majority of players will be coming from- if they like the system and models, then they will probably be resonably happy with the pricing if they decide to take it up. Whilst not as cheap as games like BFG and Mordheim to play for example; for a 'large scale' wargame with a lot of models per army, the prices havn't been pushed _too_ high: sure, some things are a bit steep- ?8/9 for three tanks is a bit much imo... ..but generally things are reasonable for GW products, compared to 40k & WHFB..

I have to also agree that its not too badly priced. I have bought up the fact before that you can get a well rounded tournament army for E:A for under ?100 & thats simply not possible in any of the mainstream GW lines.
I wont go over it all again, but I will make one point on the cost of the land raiders. These miniatures seem to be getting a lot of flak due to their price. Bear in mind that they arent that far off the size of the original Super Heavies - they're BIG models! E40K edition SHTs were ?6 each. Comparatively they're not that much, but I know some will never see it that way as you'll continue to hark back to older prices (go on.... bring on the 3 40k Rhinos for ?10 argument... )

Silence! Both of you! How dare you talk back to me! You will be destroyed! Why do I have to keep reminding all of you of my superior intellect?!?!?! My arguements are flawless! Infidels! Whores of Satan!
(Here comes Maksim to delete my post)
Actually, that wasn't 2500 points of models. . it was 2000 dead on. I actually chose Terminators for my 2000 point army, but figured since they aren't available yet, I'd turn them in for something else.
I just can't let go of how much more expensive Epic is compared to back in the day, and yes, even for $100, a 2000 point army isn't that much fun.
[Reaver]
[Land Raiders]
[Tactical formation]
[Devastator Formation]
[Predators]
On a gaming table just isn't that much fun. I know I can play with more, but I was just pointing out that for what I would spend. Honestly though, I collect all the armies, and it just seems like Epic is so freakin more expensive this time around. But then again, I did buy 99% of my Epic 40k stuff for dirt cheap. I mean, dirt cheap.
And you might be right about the WFB and 40k players spending the money. I don't invest much in those games either, so maybe I am conservative these days. Unless it is for Man O' War that is. I just dropped $50+ on a High Elf fleet that was recently available for $25, and I feel like I got a good deal. I guess I am having a hard time with all the metal. Plastic was cheap.
It is just now I think about what $100 will get me these days, like clothes; xbox games; etc etc that I will use more often then play Epic. I don't mind stuff sitting when it was cheap, but I think I have played AT/SM around 50 times in my life, SM/TL around 25-30, Epic 40k around 20, Epic A around 12.
Still, it was effortless to get into the previous games, as so much was plastic. Now everything is metal and comes seperately. Just raizes da kost.

Well, what you listed was 2K. However, you also get the figs to field three more tac formations and an assault formation. Personally, I would get 4 razorbacks for the Devs and 6 rhinos (since you now have some spares from the devs) and come out at over 3000 points with your original list, plus 2 blisters/boxes. In a friendly game, you don't really need spacecraft models to field spacecraft, so that adds a bit more flexibility.
Call it 3200 well-rounded pts for ~$135 (guesstimate).
For the target demographic, i.e. fairly hardcore 40K players, that's not much for a solid army. And despite my cheapness, there are a few boxes I will buy at *gasp* retail.
Since you brought up XBoxes and such, that's just 2 games, right? Would you really get significantly more entertainment time out of 2 videogames than a decent Epic army?

Quote (nealhunt @ 03 2004 Feb.,20:03) | Well, what you listed was 2K. ?However, you also get the figs to field three more tac formations and an assault formation. |
Actually the remaining models would be enough for 2.33 tactical formations and 2 assault formations (you get 24 tactical stands and 8 assault stands in an infantry box, and could assemble half the tactical stands as devastators.)
You could make a 3000+ point army out of just the models Gandalf listed.
Onto the exsisting 2000 point list, using the spare models in the infantry box add: 2 assault formations (350 points) 1 devastator formation (250 points) 1 tactical formation (300 points) and a 2 more commanders.
Thats 3000 points. And you will still have enough spare models for another devastator formation.
Swap the rhinos to the tactical squad (since you get 6 in a blister), and use the land raiders as transports for the devastators (2 for each formation) and have 1 tactical squad garrison.
All this without any additonal dollar cost

Hi!
Plastic sprues will be the new "gold" of epic gaming currency.
Things will be measured as being worth "x" amount of old plastic sprues.
I can see it now, one gamer telling another, "hey I got this mint CI, I'll trade you for 10 plastic sprues...."

Primarch | No way, man, its only worth 5 tops!
I'm sure there are lots of remarks about "devaluing the sprue" or a "sprue recession" but not being a boring exconomist, UI just cant think of them

My bad. I haven't been keeping up on the exact sprue breakdown because I don't plan on buying any. The point stands, though.
