Land Raiders tend to not be all that popular....awfully expensive for what you get IMHO

I've never taken only one Warhound Titan so I can't tell you how effective it would be, but I suspect it would be pretty easy to break.

Maybe take the points that you spending on one of the LR units and buy a second Warhound, or a second unit of terminators. One termy unit could teleport in at start of game and you'd still have a second to bringing on turn two - so your opponent won't be quite as aggressive in moving out.

Have you considered taking whirlwinds?

If you have not already, take a look at the Imperial Fists army list in the NetEA Compendium.

I think that list is exactly what you are looking for. It gives up Thunderhawks and Warhounds for other wonderful ground pounding toys.

While the NetEA IF list is a near-perfect fit, I'm trying to keep within the confines of EpicUK to ensure that my armies are UK tournament legal..... :(

I took delivery of my tanks today so I'll possibly try them out next week... gonna have a fiddle with the list in the meantime

@robbypk, I've not got any whirlwinds unfortunately, they didn't seem like a great fit, (short ranged) artillery in a fast moving engagement force seems a little weird to me.... I'll give them a go in time however

Fair enough.

As my friends drilled in to me, it's not just what a unit does, that gives it power....it's what it MIGHT do. With whirlwinds your opponent has to be concerned that a barrage might be very effective if his models are bunched tightly so he'll spread them out........and that allows for more effective clipping engagements on one of the flanks by another one of your units.

90 cms range means that Whirlwinds are not an 'alpha-strike' weapon, but robbypk is correct that the double template does make enemy wary of them.

The real trick is to be able to defend Whirlwinds against enemy counter-measures as they are vulnerable to assaults; this in turn means retaining other formations nearby, diluting the forces devoted to attack or support. However they do make the ideal weapon to soften up targets for attack by other forces, and can be usefull as end-game objective grabbers.
