Hey everyone,

Played two games so far and had resounding losses in both! My main issue is focusing upon the enemy rather than the objectives in turn three. As i am now getting clued up with regards to the rules and stats of the Marine army, im beginning to focus now upon tactics.

The first thing in the game which can effect tactics is obviously objective placement. Is there any specific tactics/advice anyone can offer to help with regards to objective placement? (im talking with regards to playing table edges rather than corners), of is it simply a matter of trial and error during games as to finding out what works? Should i place them spread out, or quite close together and concentrate my force in one area? Where objectives are on the battlefield, certainly influence army deployment, so it will be good to get a flavour for what people consider during this phase.

Many thanks

Zog

It depends on your army, and what you're facing.

If you have a slow, hard army I'd advise putting them close together. If you have a quick army like Eldar or Marines I'd advise putting them far apart.

In general.

E&C has the right answer. I have in the past put down my thoughts about where to place objectives, but it ran into pages as there are so many options and the placement is almost a game with in the main game. Practise helps a lot here. However, as E&C has said the hard and fast rule for Marines is to spread out the objectives and use your speed to capture them. This of course depends on your army style, a drop Marine army will usually look to create a tight triangle with the blitz as the complete opposite.

And there are occasions when a slow army might want to spread out their objectives, for example if you want to force your opponent to split his deployment up (and you think you can exploit that).

Tim

Do you have a link to the thread on your thoughts on objectives? Sounds as if it would be worth reading for a relative newbie like me.

Cheers

James

Was it in an e-mail then? Or just verbal?

Put it in a supplement with a bunch of funky objective effects and concepts. :P
