Hello All

At FSA I discovered that broken formations cannot carry out flak attacks.

'fair enough.

It also transpired that blast markers can suppress flack units, where all units are suppressed back to front (even non AA).

I wonder if anyone can point me to the rule which allows suppression of flak by blast markers? I think I saw it somewhere, but I cannot find it.

Thanks

Thanks Spectrar Ghost

FAQ 4.2.4 wrote:
Q: If a formation has Blast Markers
and wants to fire its AA weapon(s) at
an enemy air formation, but the only
unit that has the range or the LOF to
that enemy is the AA unit, is the AA
unit suppressed?
A: All ground units are considered to have
an LOF to air units so all the units in the
formation, not just the AA unit, would be
considered to have an LOF to the aircraft
formation. If the AA unit is the only unit in
the formation that is in range of the
aircraft then it would be suppressed. If
other units in the formation were in range
then they could be considered valid
Suppression targets, not just the AA unit.
Note that a unit can be suppressed when
firing at an aircraft even if it has no AA
attack value.

So if a formation of vindicators had a hunter upgrade, with the aircraft passing at it's closest point 35cm from the nearest vindicator, the hunter would be the only one with range (60cm) and therefore only the hunter would be considered for suppression?

Yep.

The suppression rules only state 2 requirements - range and LoS. While those are superficially the same as the requirements to fire, it's not. It does not require the actual ability to fire to qualify for suppression. So...

Ground units can be suppressed against aircraft.
Slow fire units can be suppressed in their "off" turn.
Small Arms can be suppressed, even if the unit never has ranged fire.
