Holofields
Holofields provide Eldar titans with a 3+ saving throw. This save may always be taken even against
weapons with either Macro Weapon or Titan killer abilities. If a titan has reinforced armour it may use
its re-roll unless hit by Lance, Macro Weapon or Titan killer attacks but the re-roll must use the titan’s
armour value. Hits that are saved by the holofield do not generate blast markers.

I would like clarification on the bold part where hits saved by holofields do not generate blast markers.

Does this mean that if I shoot at a titan, and the hit is saved by a holofield the titan does not get a blast marker for coming under fire?

Or am I totally misunderstanding this?

They get a BM for Coming under Fire but they don't get one for "Hitting" the Holofields.

What about Disrupt hits saved by holofields. Void Shields hit by disrupt don't generate BMs, so I'd guess the same is true of saved holofield hits?

I am confused

Aside from disrupt, where does a saved hit generate a BM when holofields and void shields are not involved?

Cheers

They don't. It's not entirely clear why this sentence is included. It could be either:
- to be clear that it's an armour save, not a completely separate mechanic
- a hangover from previous iterations of the blast marker rules
- to suggest that disrupt hits don't cause blast markers

There are lots of places in the rules where Jervis just threw in notes like that for completeness. It's not a new or different process. It's just a stylistic quirk.

Unfortunately, every time one of those notes is too obvious or there is a minor variation in wording, it makes people think that they are missing something and there must be something different going on or the extra explanatory text wouldn't be needed. Confusion ensues.
=====

In general, saved hits don't cause BMs. Noting that on the Holofields rule is redundant and not a change.

Disrupt causes BMs for saved hits. Since Holofields are a save, Disrupt would still function. Disrupt doesn't work on Void Shields because Voids (and Power Fields) nullify the hit without a save.

Final question regarding holofields.

I assume it means that the saves for Eldar titans with holo fields are always 3+ (not the reinforced re-roll which I assume is Armour save) until the titan takes a critical hit when the holofield generator is destroyed, with saves then reverting to the 5+ (for eldar) armour save?

yep, that's right. 3+/5+ with holofields, 5+/5+ without.

Note that Revenants don't have reinforced armour saves, so if they fail the holofield save they do not get a 5+ save.

For Phantom and Warlocks. Revenants don't have RA, so it's just 3+ for holofield or 5+ without.

Worth noting that the holofield save is affected by crossfire

And Sniper, should you find an AT weapon with it.

Going off on a tangent now, if you were designing the rules for shields, holofields etc how would you have them interact with blast markers? To me a void shield is just like making a save - basically you get X free auto-saves - as this more accurately reflects what is happening when a shield absorbs the impact of a hit. Holofields on the other hand are more like how void shields are represented now. That is, you make a roll to determine whether a hit actually did hit the titan, or whether it hit thin air (and thus did not actually hit).

I kind of agree with Kyrt here, I find it strange mechanically that hits on void shields don't cause blast markers. Blast markers are supposed to represetn the breakdown in comms and structure that happens when thigns come under fire - surely same thing applies to a princeps in a titan that is coming under fire?

We can kind of see it in the novel Mechanicus.
