Yep, Warmaster bases are fine. Remember the basing restrictions on infantry (EA 1.1.2) are:

• A stand may be no more than 40mm and no less than 5mm
across in any direction.
• A stand must be at least 20mm across in one direction.
• Stands representing infantry units must have at least three
infantry models and may not have more than seven. Infantry
mounted on bikes or horses must have between two and four
models mounted on each base.
• Stands representing artillery must have between one and two
artillery pieces and up to six crew models.

Completely up to you. Some people don't base vehicles, others use round bases or different sized rectangles as they prefer. Personally I buy laser cut wooden bases online for my vehicles and most of my infantry as I can tailor particular sizes to what looks right for each vehicle / unit.

Another option is to use Warmaster / Flames of War bases for vehicles.

Unlike infantry, any base for vehicles are purely cosmetic- i.e. always measure to/from figure itself. So many do not base vehicles at all. I quite like bases for vehicles as makes it easier to pick up and move without worrying about scratching paintwork (I am very clumsy) and also helps to tie in whole force together.

For most tanks I use Warmaster bases. That has been fine for vehicles like Rhinos, Chimerae and Ork Gunwagonz. For Super Heavy Tanks I do need something larger so I then use either 40mm sqaure or 50mm round bases.

If I did nt have a loaf of Warmaster bases sapre then i would have probably done what Glyn suggested of using pre-cut MDF bases.

Cheers

James

Cool, i have plenty of flames of war bases lying around so i will play around with some of them. Also whilst people are being so helpful, what tournaments are good to attend in the UK that are not too competitive? As i am a newcomer a nice relaxed atmosphere would be a good place to get to play different people and armies.

Cheers, Ian

Pretty much any Epic tournament fits that bill. We're a small group and its as much a social gathering as a tournament

Hey, time for another noob question, imperial guard rough riders have the first strike ability. Reading the rules it states that only the (+1) attack is done first, then the other attacks simultaneously with the enemy. However, they are also armed with a chainsword, so is this a further 2 attacks after the 'first strike' or just 1 attack?

Hope that makes sense.

Manny

Just one. Only attacks that have the Extra Attacks +X ability add attacks, others are considered to contribute to the basic attack (CC or FF) characteristic. For instance, Guardsmen get only one FF attack with their Lasguns at 5+, and Fire Dragons get only one FF attack with their Fusion Guns, but the Fusion Guns add Macro-Weapon to that attack.

Right so got my first proper game in a couple of weeks, people say guard is a good starter army, but does that extend to the Krieg list, or should i start with my steel legion?

I'd start with steel legion. They have a bit of everything so give you a taste of every style. Krieg are more restricted in what they can do, and require more specialised tactics, so I'd leave them until you've got the hang of the game.

It's rare to encounter the so-called "WAAC attitude" at Epic tournaments, so I should think that you'd be okay with any of them. Personally I dipped my toe into tournaments with one-day events first.

I played my first game of epic armageddon with two EUK GT winners last week, as well as a couple of other very competent guys and they were all extremely sporting and helpful, I think epic isn't like other GW core games in that to play the game, you have to make tactical decisions, and it's much more about in-game tactics rather than list building and item-combos
