Gotta be honest, I'm struggling to see the point of this list...

1) It offers a slightly different style of play to the Codex: Astartes list.
2) It's potentially to be used in a campaign book, alongside more divergent lists. It's a good first opportunity for me to dabble in list development.
3) I wanted to do it. ;)

Thanks for the list. These minor divergences are best abstracted out, I think.

Another idea; if you want to drop the Marauders, have a look at the other Thunderhawk variant (Saturation Bombing i think).

This was introduced for the Black Templars list, right? What was the reason for it there?
I'm not averse to introducing it.

What is the point of ANY variant list?

Well let see:
Salamanders: Already have their own army list
Fire Hawks: As Salamanders but with no restrictions on the Fast Attack units and 6 strong Assault Detachments.
Red Scorpions: Codex list.
Raptors: Hmm Tacticals with Scouts?
Mantis Warriors: Any Infantry gains Infiltrators.
Executioners: Nothing as Imperial Fists get nothing too so: Codex list.
Minotaurs: Codex list.
Carcharodons: Hmmm modified Blood Angels list.
Sons of Medusa: That's tough because an all-Fearless Space Marine army is no fun.

Any specific thoughts on the ability to take two Hunters in a single formation? This is one of the biggest (though still minor!) changes in the list, and I'd be intrigued to see if there were any immediate objections to it.

I say No.

Reason behind it is it should be a Rare thing. But already DA and IF lists have them. But if you have a need for them then I guess so :D

If anything, if you're putting the AdMech in the supp I don't see the need to disallow Titan allies.... Also I would probably rename the list to Codex: Badab to differentiate it a little.

Interesting – haven't seen any background to suggest that? Since the list does rely on ground-based AA, could you suggest a possible alternative, please?

Mechanically: differentiation (see the abstract, opening post)
Background-wise: Titans only deployed in the Adeptus Mechanicus' own armies – never in support of the Astartes (either the Secessionists or the Imperials)

Done – as noted elsewhere, I don't want to tread on the main list's toes! :)

Major update – the expansion grows! :)

Into the Maelstrom: The Badab War PDF download clicky link

The Tyrant's Legion [v0.1] list has been created. I'd be very interested to hear what people thought of this initial list, which combines the Astral Claws space marines and their PDF – and point out any major things that jump out.
  • List abstract: to allow a combination of relatively static Space Marines and PDF while staying within existing rules. Also, to represent the Forgeworld Imperial Armour background and list where possible.
  • v0.1 is a 'beta' list, for people to critque before it goes 'live' for playtesting.
  • Introduction of Leman Russ Annhilator, as per Imperial Armour
  • Creation of The Tyrant's Due rules.
  • List prep

Codex: Badab War [v.1.1] Space Marine list has also had cosmetic changes:
  • Thunderhawk (Void War) has been altered – the Turbo Laser Destructor is now an optional swap for the Battle Cannon (mainly for modelling purposes).
  • Renamed Codex: Badab War to avoid conflict with NetEA Codex: Astartes.

It's probably worth noting that the Turbolaser is considerably more powerful than the Battlecannon on the Thunderhawk.

+EDIT+
List(s) updated with 'you may upgrade the battecannon to a turbo laser destructor for +25pts'.

Any preliminary thoughts on the Tyrant's Legion list?

In the Black Templar list the Turbo laser version has lost all transport capacity, but gained hellfire missiles in addition to the turbo laser. I have to say I prefer that version, as it will leave room for a normal thunderhawk.

I'd prefer it if the list kept the Codex Astartes: Badab War name, as it's supposed to be a normal Codex chapter that has simply adapted to operating without Navy and AdMech support.

I was thinking a note that mentions 'you may upgrade the battecannon to a turbo laser destructor for +25pts' might be a good option, but looking at the stats (2 x AP5/AT3 vs AP4/AT4), I'm not convinced it looks that much more powerful...

We playtested it as an option years ago. It was well worth +25pts.

I'm taking my cues for the Thunderhawk in this list from the 40k version, which has evolved a lot from the old Epic approach. Given that the Turbolaser is present in all the most recent material (including Aeronautica Imperialis) and that it's an option on the current models, I'm allowing both weapon options on the transport version.

Yes, that was my original intention and preferred name, but I don't want to tread on Dobbsy's toes, so I've changed it for the moment. It's subject to change anyway – any suggestions for a final name will be appreciated!

A couple of designer's notes on the The Tyrant's Legion:
There's currently no option for a Supreme Commander, as I wanted to represent the disruption to command and communications that having Astartes and humans in the same force creates. In addition, the FW list has no HQ better than a Centurion (who is worse than a Marine Captain) beyond Lufgt Huron himself. In the background, the Centurions are in charge – there's no Captain-level Astartes available to the Tyrant's Legion to lead them...

Is this a suitable weakness (in concert with the strategy rating of 4 and very limited access to leader?)

Huh – Great minds think alike. :)
I'll have a look over your version.
