Hi guys!

I have not been playing epic for a while but it has fired up again in my local area and I have been really getting into it again! Up until now I had a brief dabble in a chaos army but built and finished a 'necron' (cube) army. I would like to make a brand new slightly more conventional force to go with my refininding of epic but I just cannot decide which force to go for.

I have some pretty strict things I want from the new army but I am not sure where to go with them so thought maybe some suggestions might help.

I do not want to play chaos (our top player has just stopped playing them and I am jaded after seeing them ina ction for so long)

I would prefer 1+ initiative in the army as anything worse than that is really frustrating

I do not want to play eldar (some of our new players have just started them)

I would like flexability in the force (a little bit of everything such as titans, flyers, maybe artillery...)

I am not convinced by marines as they only seem good jumping out of drop pods or thunderhawks.

Ideally the army is not going to be too unforgiving to use as I do not often make the most tactically sound plans.




Any suggestions would be great as I am really at a loss and just dont know what to do. Thanks for looking!

Perhaps tyranids then? They have a 1+ initiative, but I don't know if they fit your other requirements. They have (bio-)titans of sorts but don't have airplanes (but have flying creatures). They're still in development stage so the list will be changing a bit now and then, but of course more players contributing to playtest is good so you'd be helping if they suit you. They are rather focused on assaults and don't shoot a lot.

Other than that there's a bunch of variant list for different space marines chapters and they're all 1+ initiative, some might suit you more than the vanilla list. I can't recommend any as I haven't really looked into them.

I think that this is difficult as your list just suggests Marines. Perhaps one of the Marine variant lists?

Orks can work too. Sure they may seem like they got init 3+, but you always have the option of picking an action that gives you 1+. I find this a lot more comforting than straight 2+ or 3+, as with orks I can choose if I want to gamble for a sustained fire or assault, or go for the safe double.

Orks are a maybe (althought I find their list overwhelming to look at).

Can you guys sell me on a some of the chapter specific space marine lists? I had never really concidered them before.

He mentioned in the first post they're an army he already he has them - and to a good 5,000+ points judging by the beautifully painted/converted on display in Bristol Cut 'n' Thrust. Gota love the cubes!

Have you considered a Titan Legions army? The Titans which make up the majority of the army are initiative 1, though the support stuff is 2.

Speaking of wolves.. does anyone know if there's any plans to do a wolves epic uk list? or do people use one of the other chapter specific lists?

The Apocrypha of Skaros tries to make Marines good at running about on the ground (as does the Salamanders list, IIRC).

I have to admit that I am a pretty terrible epic player so I find it really hard to visualise how the different space marines armies would really play. Space wolves look kind of interesting but i am just not a fan of the paint scheme.
