Hi People.

Could someone please direct me to a document that talks about the garrison rules? I have not seen anything about it in the online documents at GW.

It's in the rules for the standard tournament scenario, page 125.

Quote:
6.1.5 Setup Spacecraft & Garrisons
Each player may start up to two of their garrisoned formations on Overwatch. These formations represent sentries deployed as a trip wire and to provide security at the objectives. They are assumed to have gone on Overwatch in their previous Action phase. That Overwatch is ‘carried over’ into the first turn.

If either player is using spacecraft then they are set up now before any other units (see 4.3). Units entering play via planetfall should be place to one side at this time too (see 4.4).

On-table garrison units are set up after spacecraft have been set up. The following types of formations may be set up on the table as ‘garrisons’ at the start of the game:

  • Formations where half or more of the units (rounding up) are scouts OR
  • Formations where no more than one of the units has a move greater than 15cms, and where none of the units are war engines OR
  • Any formations that include units with a speed of 0 (zero).

Players take it in turns to set up one garrison at a time, starting with the player with the higher strategy rating. Garrisons must be set up so that they have at least one unit within 15cm of an objective in the player’s own half of the table. No units may be set up in the opponent’s half of the table or in impassable terrain. Units may be set up in dangerous terrain (it’s assumed that they took their time getting into position in order to do so safely!)

Older thread but relevent to the questions I have about garrisoning. I checked the FAQ and didnt find answers to my questions

Are there any restrictions of placing garrison units near opponents garrison units? One of the units must be within 15cm of an objective and they must be deployed in your half of the able but apart from that do they still have to adhere to ZOC and are there any other rules?

It just seems odd that one player can place garrison units 6cm away from their opponents garrison unit (as long as they adhere to the above rules)

if the above is correct can I place a garrison unit of scouts outside my opponents ZOC but force him to be in mine?

Sorry if these are silly questions, garrisoning seems a little vague :)

I'd say you'd have to set up outside your opponent's ZOC. However you could probably set up so he's in your's if possible. It'd be a surefire way to rid yourself of an activation, though.

As SG says, you must respect ZoC when you place your own garrison formations; so when placing your Ork Mob, none of it's units may be put inside the ZoC of enemy scouts. However, you may place your scouts such that their ZoC covers enemy units (like the Ork mob), which would force that formation either to assault the scouts or to move elsewhere.

Also note that you may only put two garrisons on OW at the start of the game, though potentially you may be able to have many more garrisons.

Yep. Outside ZoC, but enemy units could technically be garrisoned 5.1cm apart at the start of the game.

Keep in mind that you cannot garrison on objectives in the enemy's half of the board, even if you can do so with all your units still in your half of the board, and vice versa. To be that close, you'd have to have 2 objectives near the mid-line and close enough that the formations garrisoned on each could string out towards each other as described.
